This reverts commit 7c31bb5. I'm not sure what the intent of that commit is, but it doesn't work and causes exceptions in the API server. I left a note in the PR a month ago which hasn't gotten a response.

Sorry for merging "too early"... approving but I assume you need to rebase and re-run pre-commit to fix generated code issues before merge

Actually, that branch name is causing all sorts of issues too... going to close this, rename the branch, and get the static checks sorted out. Sorry about that.
