Safari 15.1 integration broken with macOS desktop app 1.29.0 #1126
Comments
I'm having the same issue and just reported the bug over in the "browser" repository: bitwarden/clients#2150 |
I had thought that on macOS it's the desktop app that creates the integration with Safari, given it's no longer installed as a separate extension but through the App Store. But I could be wrong! |
@bfren No, I think you're right! It probably belongs here. |
Update/fix coming here: #1128 👍 |
Fab, thanks! |
I am having the same issues. Just like OP, I have uninstalled/reinstalled Bitwarden, checked in Safari's Preferences > Extensions tab, and looked in "Customize Toolbar..." in Safari's menu bar. I am running Bitwarden 1.29.0 (just updated) on Mac OS Big Sur (will update to Monterey later and see if it is fixed). Edit: Running Safari 15.1 and Mac OS Monterey - still not fixed. |
Same problem running Bitwarden 1.29.0 (just updated) on Mac OS Big Sur 11.6. No problems for Firefox and Chrome. |
Confirmed on macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 (Intel MBP13 2018) as well with Safari 15.1 – it isn't visible as an extension to enable. |
Same problem with my setup (MBP13 M1) with macOS Monterey 12.0.1 (21A559), Safari 15.1 (17612.2.9.1.20) and Bitwarden client 1.29.0 (1790) downloaded from App Store. |
Same problem with my setup (MBP16, 2019) with macOS Monterey 12.0.1, Safari 15.1 (17612.2.9.1.20) and Bitwarden client 1.29.0 (1790) downloaded from App Store. |
Desktop version 1.29.1 has been submitted to the Mac App Store and is awaiting review from Apple. It should be available shortly. |
For those coming here, the update appears to be out now. |
@kspearrin Thank you for prompt fix for this. Are you planning a post mortem for this by any chance? Seemed like pretty serious "downtime", I had no access to Bitwarden in Safari for something like 2-3 days in total, as a paying customer that seems pretty annoying. Already got a reply in a different issue: bitwarden/clients#2150 (comment) Thanks |
I'd like to also point out that all preferences seem to be wiped. I had to relogin to the extension and set my settings for autofill, locking/unlocking, matching etc. That's a really bad side effects, isn't it possible to save this settings in a less volatile storage? |
It seems that the Safari extension only allows for WebAuthn ? No Yubikey option ? |
I have updated to 1.29.1 but still no extension. Did it fix for you guys? |
Same problem, still no extension |
So many threads on this topic 🙃 Those who aren't seeing the extension after the 1.29.1 update, please try the following:

Thanks @tgreer-bw! It worked! |
Fixed for me, but I had to re-activate it, and it had lost all my settings. |
I am on Big Sur and with the new version the extension does show up again. As others already reported, I had to set up everything from start again (login with 2FA, timeout, password eviction etc.) Nonetheless a big thank you for the quick fix and the great product! |
