Login Screen

The first time you start the app, the login screen will meet you. Using the login screen, you can enter your credentials if you already are registered to the platform. If you have not registered to the platform before, follow the "Register here" link to the bottom of the screen.

Registration Screen

If you have not registered to the platform before, you can use the registration screen to register to the platform. Simply fill the form and click on the button to the bottom of the screen.

Main Screen

Once you log in to the platform, you will be met by the main screen. Using the main screen, you can access various parts of the platform.

Taking Exercises

Clicking on the "Exercises" button on the main screen will redirect you to a list of options where you can choose the type of exercise you want to take. Choosing an exercise type will bring an exercise you have not solved. Answer all of the questions and click the "Submit" button to the bottom of the screen. You will be shown the number of correct and incorrect answers. You can also see the correct answers.

Suggesting New Exercises

You can suggest exercises. Exercises you suggest are subject to the approval of the platform management. To suggest an exercise, click on the "Exercises" button on the main screen and follow the link "Suggest New Exercise" at the bottom of the list. Specify the language, type and level of the exercise and assign tags and keywords to it. Click on the "Continue" button to the bottom of the screen to write questions for the exercise.

Essay Functionality

Clicking the "Essay" button on the main screen will redirect you to a list of options where you can choose to write a new essay within the app or upload an existing one. You can also click on the "My Essays" button to view a list of essays that involves you.

After clicking on the "My Essays" button, you will be redirected to a page that lists the essays that have been sent by you, or essays the reviewer of which is you. You can click on any essay to view it, along with any annotations associated with it. Clicking on an annotation will bring a screen that displays the creator of that annotation and the message associated with it. You can also start chatting with the creator of the annotation.

You can also annotate the essay. To annotate a text essay, hold a part of the essay for about a second and select the part you want to annotate. To annotate an image essay, click on the "Annotate" button to the bottom of the page and select the part you want to annotate. Then, click on the "Annotate" button again. You will be asked to enter an annotation comment.

Chat Functionality

Clicking the "Chat" button on the main screen will redirect you to a screen that lists your previous conversations. You can click on a conversation to see its messages and to write a new message. You can click on the button to the bottom right of the screen to choose a user with whom you want to create a conversation.

Search Functionality

You can search for exercises or users. Click on the "Search" button on the main screen and choose what you want to search for. You can search for exercises by language and tag or keyword. Note that exercise search is semantic, so you can search for "vehicle" and get results for "car". To search for a user, you can type in part of the username.

Profile Page

You can see your profile page by clicking on the user icon to the top left of the main screen. Here you can see comments made about you and your progress among the exercises.

Commenting for Users

You can comment and rate users to whom you have sent an essay which got accepted. Open the essay whose reviewer you want to rate, click the user icon to the top right of the screen to open the reviewer's profile page and choose a rating. A page will appear where you can write a comment about the user.

You can see comments made about you in your profile page.

Login and Sign-up

When you enter our application, this page will appear. You will be redirected to login or signup page when you click them. If you are a registered user, you can login by entering your username or email and password from login page. If you did not create an account before, you can do so by going to the signup page. And filling the form provided there. After signup you will have to select a language and redirected to “/prof-test/(language)” to take its proficiency exam in order to start your learning. This is the page you will see after signup: After login you are redirected to home page as a logged in user. Because after signup you attended a language, you are not redirected to proficiency exam again.So in navigation bar, you can see “Logout”, “My Profile” and “Search” buttons. My profile will have an icon created from your initials provided in your username. Also you can see a vertical navigation that will help you get to functionalities you desire.

Profile

By clicking “My Profile” from above navigation or vertical one, you are redirected to url /profile/(your username) and will see the profile page of your account.

In the profile page basic information about the user is shown. Overall rating is calculated by the given ratings from other users. Rating is possible when an essay is accepted by either of the users. Here you can view your progress and statistics about your learning by clicking the language you’ve attended. You can not click the languages you have not attended. This section can be only seen by you. Other users can not see someone else’s statistics.

Below statistics, you can see the ratings other users did to you.

Solving Exercise

You will click “Exercises” in vertical navigation in order to solve exercise. In this page you will select the language you want to complete exercise of. If you did not take its proficiency yet, a button to take the proficiency exam will be shown. If the language you chose is in your attended languages, all exercises that are suitable for you to solve will be listed. The exercises suitable for you are those that are not yet solved by you and that are in your current level. You can filter exercises by their type or you can write some words like “car” to filter exercises by subjects. If you want to solve a particular exercise, you will click “Solve exercise” and will be redirected to the exercise page. Exercises are shown question by question and you can go to previous or next question as you desire. Note that in listening exercises, you should select what you hear in the question. After you think you are done with the exercise, click “Complete the Test!” and your answers will be highlighted as green or red, according to their correctness. If you want, you can then click the yellow button to see your result. Number of correct and false answers will be shown as well as your level.

Sending & Receiving Writing

You need to upload writing before you send it. From vertical navigation, select “Write an Essay” and you will see this page. You can upload an image or text file or you can write an essay from scratch by selecting that button. You will need to specify your writing’s language and then you will be recommended some users in order for you to choose a reviewer of your essay. When you have selected a user and send your writing, that user will receive your writing in their review requests part of their essays(/writing-list) with status pending. After you sent your essay you will be able to annotate it. Just select some part of the text or some part of the image to select where your annotation will be. Then you will type your annotation and add it. You can see what does the annotated part is about by hovering on it. You can chat with your reviewer to discuss some changes from the left part of the page. After your reviewer accepts your essay status will be accepted. If the reviewing is finished, either of you can select the essay status to be completed.

Recommend Expert

This functionality is for chat and selecting a reviewer for writing. But you can also get recommended experts always by selecting “Recommend Expert” from navigation. You will select a language and users listed according to their native language being the language you selected and their ratings. Some new registered users are also added to the list to help them involve in the application.

Chat

You can send a chat to anyone. To see your history of chatting select “Chats” from navigation. You can click on a conversation to see its messages and to write a new message You can create a new chat by clicking + button. Then you can get recommendations and select the user you want to chat with. Also you can be redirected to have a chat with user from their profile page or search results.

Suggesting New Exercises

From navigation select “Contribute” to suggest a new exercise. You need to give specifics of the exercise and then you will see the corresponding outline of a question. You can add as many questions as you want. You will need to notify the correct option for this question by selecting the square. And after you filled all the required fields you will click “Finish and Suggest This Exercise”.

Search

You can search users of exercises from the search bar at the top navigation. When you type something and hit “enter” or click the search button you will be redirected to search page. Then the input you entered will be shown and you will need to specify if you’re looking for a user or an exercise. If you choose “USER” you will be able to filter results by choosing a language(native language of the searched user). If you don’t choose a language resulted users can have any native language. Then results will be shown like this: If you choose “EXERCISE”, you will be able to filter results by choosing a language, a type and a level. You are required to select a language and it is “english” by default. However you can specify or not a type and a level. Note that exercise search is semantic, so you can search for "vehicle" and get results for "car". The results will be listed as follows:

Rating & Commenting Users

If you have accepted someone’s essay or they have accepted your essay, you can rate them on their profile. The rating functionality will not be shown if you are not allowed to rate someone. Then you can give a rating from 1 to 5 and write a comment if you want and click “rate” to send your rating. Your rating will be shown in that user’s profile.
