We sometimes get questions about what OS people should use. We also see often people coming with laptops that they don't have admin rights on.
Do we want to go ever further and say a recent version of the OS? We may have some challenges if people come with, say, Windows XP or Ubuntu 10.4 (or whatever Mac's outdated version is -- I've never used a Mac).

I'm not sure about Windows and OS X, but folks should be able to
install the software needed for a workshop on most Linux distributions
without having root access to their machine. Can we soften this to
say that they need enough access to install the software listed below,
and leave it to them to decide if they have that permission or not
(instead of naming it “administrative privileges”)?
