I 9 verification requirements

DHS requires that some of the following is inspected:

Passport

OR

One of something from each of these two lists:

• Driver’s license or state-issued ID card
• Photo ID card issued by federal, state, or local government agency
• School ID card with a photograph
• Voter’s registration card
• US Military card or draft record
• Military dependent’s ID card
• US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card
• Native American tribal document
• Driver’s license issued by the Canadian government

AND:

• Social Security Card. Must not have one of these restrictions:
  • Not valid for employment
  • Valid only for work with INS Authorization
  • Valid only for work with DHS Authorization
• Certification of report of birth issued by the Department of State (Forms DS-1350, FS-545, FS-240)
• Original or certified birth certificate issued by a US state, county, municipality, or territory
• Native American tribal document
• US Citizen ID Card (I-197)
• Resident Citizen ID Card (I-179)
• Employment authorization issued by the Department of Homeland Security
