Compatdata

A compatdata directory is a directory that is used by Proton to store the Wineprefix and some other proton-related files for a game. It can be found in the "compatdata" directory in the steam library besides the "common/game-directory."

Proton uses the variable STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH for this directory.

Possible breakage of a compatdata directory can be circumvented by using a Compatdata Redirect option With a 2nd Compatdata Redirect option, it is also possible to use one compatdata directory for multiple games.

steamtinkerlaunch also offers an easy option to Recreate Proton compatdata WARNING, Please be careful as this includes save data for the game, and deleting the compatdata folder will cause steam to sync an empty game save to Steam cloud, however by default steamtinkerlaunch will create a backup in PATHTOSTEAMTINKERLAUNCHCONFIG/Backup/ See Backup-Support for more info
