@quentin-sommer Can you share some more context? A stack trace and a code sample reproducing this issue would be very helpful in determining if modifying the retry behavior is the right approach.

Hi,
Unfortunately since the error is a timeout returned by the BQ service I can't really reproduce it. I've seen it happen once in production in June but I don't have access to the logs anymore.
I'm basing the PR on this documentation. What do you think about it?

tswast commented Aug 24, 2021

I noticed in the implementation of #896 that we currently aren't retrying client-side timeouts, but unless you explicitly set a timeout I don't think this 100% solves the situation.

I also recently learned about the X-Server-Timeout header. It might be possible to set this header value to something small enough that we're able to reproduce the server-side error you saw.

This addresses internal issue 195337762 where sometimes query job creation can
take longer than expected and retrying the API call can be faster than waiting
for the first query job request to fail.

If this timeout was actually a client-side timeout, this was fixed in #896. I'll close this for now, but if you do see the issue again and have more information so we can better identify the circumstances (or better yet reproduce it), please let us know.

\======

- [#348](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/issues/348): Restored support for `EntryPoint` access by item,
    deprecating support in the process. Users are advised
    to use direct member access instead of item-based access::

    -   ep\[0] -> ep.name
    -   ep\[1] -> ep.value
    -   ep\[2] -> ep.group
    -   ep\[:] -> ep.name, ep.value, ep.group

\======

-   [#337](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/issues/337): Rewrote `EntryPoint` as a simple class, still
    immutable and still with the attributes, but without any
    expectation for `namedtuple` functionality such as
    `_asdict`.

### [`v4.7.1`](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/blob/master/CHANGES.rst#v471)

[Compare Source](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/compare/v4.7.0...v4.7.1)

\======

-   [#344](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/issues/344): Fixed regression in `packages_distributions` when
    neither top-level.txt nor a files manifest is present.

### [`v4.7.0`](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/blob/master/CHANGES.rst#v470)

[Compare Source](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/compare/v4.6.4...v4.7.0)

\======

-   [#330](https://togithub.com/python/importlib_metadata/issues/330): In `packages_distributions`, now infer top-level
    names from `.files()` when a `top-level.txt`
    (Setuptools-specific metadata) is not present.
