The AnVIL Template includes preset styles for different AnVIL sub-projects.

The standard AnVIL style is provided by default, with Fred Hutch DaSL as the default lead institution.

To use any of the other built-in styles, you will need to swap out the following files:

  • _output.yml
  • index.Rmd

1. Replace index.Rmd

If you are working on a specific sub-project (e.g. GDSCN), find the corresponding folder in style-sets and copy index.Rmd into the root directory, replacing the existing file. The index.Rmd will become the first page of your book or course. The index.Rmd files in AnVIL_Template give you a starting point by providing things like a description of the subproject (e.g What is GDSCN?) and code for listing out related books and courses. All books and courses for a subproject use the same index.Rmd file as a starting point. You can then customize it by adding details about your particular book or course

2. Replace _output.yml

The _output.yml file provides, among other things, the logos for the book or course. Choose the file that corresponds to your subproject and institution

  • If someone from Fred Hutch DaSL is the lead author on the book or course, use the _output.yml file from the sub-project style-set (e.g. GDSCN)
  • If someone from another institution is the lead author, use the _output.yml from the style-set folder corresponding to that institution (e.g. GDSCN_JHU)
