This very early proposal to address #3276.

Current behavior for kustomize edit add resource <pattern>:

  • it tries to fSys.Glob(pattern), if it finds files, it stops there
  • if it doesn't find any files, it tries to ldr.New(pattern) which will fail if <pattern> is an inaccessible remote repository

Proposed behavior for kustomize edit add resource <pattern> --skip-validation:

  • it tries to fSys.Glob(pattern), if it finds files, it stops there
  • if it doesn't find any files, it tries to ldr.New(pattern) unless the --skip-validation flag is passed (in which case it just adds the pattern to the list of results)

This is my first contribution here and I wanted to gather feedback with this very-drafty PR before going further.

This very early proposal: Try `fSys.Glob(pattern)`. If we get results,
that's what we use. If not, we try to `ldr.New(pattern)` unless the
`--skip-validation` flag is passed (in which case we just add the

Hi @tbalthazar. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes-sigs member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.
