Closes #165

This fix was vibe-coded. The initial suggestion was to remove this if statement entirely, but I thought it would be safer to find a relevant condition to keep it. Don't know what's the right thing to test here, but with that you can compile in alpine with the minimal example provided in #165.

Let me know if you would want something else. I have allowed edits by maintainers
