[Feature Request]: Mute Notifications for Specific Chats

Description

It would be very useful to have the ability to mute notifications for a specific chat. For example, suppress notifications from a public channel so that new messages do not interrupt the user, while still allowing notifications for private messages.

Use case / Benefit:

Avoid distractions from high-traffic public channels.

Maintain awareness of important private messages.

Improve usability and user control over notifications.

Proposed behavior:

Option to mute a specific chat or channel.

Notifications remain active for other chats.

Ability to toggle mute on/off easily.

I'm working on an implementation for this now! 🙂

I think mute for channels is an awesome idea but we already have the ability to ignore a node. So just to clarify - unlike ignore, mute in the context of another node would allow us to still see messages received by them; only the GUI popups and any external notifications won't be invoked?

This has now been implemented in the ExternalNotifications module as well as for devices with OLED displays. I've also written an integration for this in the python CLI. The PR is marked as ready for review now so hopefully can get some attention soon.

This will still need some work to get a uniform behaviour accross OLED, Meshtastic UI and InkHUD displays re: message notification / popups but I don't have the hardware to crack into that just yet. Same goes for integration with the client application's; I'm still waiting to hear what those devs have to say about this before any further progress is made.
