The taskbar notification area icon of Awake is gone.

There's an icon of Awake in the taskbar notification area.

I cannot find the icon and I have to open PowerToys settings just to change my settings, which is very inconvenient.

This is a thing; and it is not in the tray overflow until toggled off then on again. Some could confuse the new icon for something else, but I hover over till I don't find it.

Same here and it doesn't reappear after the module is turned off/on, I have to restart powertoys for it to come back. Started happening after the latest version update.

Edit: it usually happens after screen was off for a while
Edit 2: here are some errors from event viewer (not sure if they preceded icon disappearing or they happened when I tried to turn awake off/on)

I'm having the same issue. Awake icon is missing, toggling on/off in PowerToys settings will make it appear, but it will disappear again after a reboot.

Reopening as I need to investigate the root cause. It's possible that it's an Awake issue and not necessarily a Windows issue. The log from @eldair is actually pointing to a potential error path that I am working on.

I then disabled Awake from PowerToys menu, deleted %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\PowerToys\Awake\settings.json, enabled Awake, and tray icon appeared.

I first tried to uninstall PowerToys. It did not remove %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\PowerToys, thus the seemingly broken %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\PowerToys\Awake\settings.json was left behind too.

Not a Windows 11 bug; previous version worked. It showed up with 0.83 and the new icons. Running with or without elevated privileges also seems to have no impact on the occurrence of the issue.

It works fine on windows 10 iot Entreprise KTSC 2021, but has problems on windows 11 Pro 23H2.

Can you tell me more about what problems you're encountering?

The problems everyone else had. But I believe is now fixed. About awake.

@edjia please open a new issue, assign to me, and tell us more about the environment you are running this in. I see you have Windows 10 Pro for Workstations - I haven't tested on that particular Windows SKU but it could be something specific to your setup.

For those dealing with this on Windows 11 (and possibly 10 too) still, I was able to get the system tray icon to reappear by doing the following:

Expand the system tray.
Locate the PowerToys icon, left-click it.
PowerToy's "Quick access" menu should pop-up. Select "More >" in the top right corner.
You should now see all PowerToys apps. Toggle off and on the Awake app.
You should hopefully now see the Awake icon in your system tray.

However the issue that causes the process to crash (or fail to start) doesn't seem to be fully fixed (yet).

Turning it off and on in the main PowerToys application window did not result in the system tray icon being displayed properly. Performing the actions I noted earlier is what worked for me. I wouldn't have been as specific in the workflow if it wasn't the only way it worked for me.

Turn it on and off again IS NOT A SOLUTION.
Where do i found the PowerToys Tray Icon ?
PowerToys is running in the Background (Task Manager show it up and running) and also awake.

But none of the icons are showing up in the tray.
I need to trash it with task manager and restart the full app to get it working.

Issue is since 0.83 when will it be fixed in v0.99 or 999.0 ?

I have a viable workaround, documented in another of this issues tickets.

In a nutshell:

Open the windows "task scheduler", find the PowerToys autostart task.
Set up a your own (a second) task to start PowerToys. Base the settings on the original one created by PowerToys. But: set the start delay to 30s (instead of 3s as set in the original one).

Open the PowerToys, go to settings/general disable the "run on startup ()", which will remove the original task scheduler entry (with 3s delay).

Reboot, enjoy!
