OpenDSP audio system is based on Jack1.
The newer onboard soundcard driver of raspberry can deals with low latency nicely if you follow some steps.
But we do encourage you to invest on a external soundcard for better and professional results, from Hifiberrys to Behringer UCA202 you got a plenty of cheap but good soundcards to use avaliable on the market.
