Updates

Our previous plan to activate the 2023 hardfork on the testnet at epoch 6765 has been deferred. We are currently grappling with the challenge of coordinating the hardfork with the light client softfork. This requires further discussion to devise a new plan. However, we're excited to announce that CKB v0.111.0 will offer a first glimpse of the CKB2023 features on the local development chain. Check out the latest RC release, 0.111.0-rc6.

Features

• Preview of CKB2023 is available in 0.111.0-rc6. Key updates include:
  • The integration of new syscalls spawn in ckb-debugger
  • ckb-sdk-rust and ckb-cli compatibility upgrades for CKB 0.111.0
  • Refined design of the transaction verification cache for performance to better support consensus version upgrade.
• Support for Monero has been introduced in ckb-auth, following previous support for Cardano
  • add monero support cryptape/ckb-auth#18

Improvements

• We're making consistent enhancements to the transaction pool. Key updates include:
  • Improved the ordering of transactions in the pending stage to to solve the previous issue of high-fee transactions potentially queuing for too long.
  • Improved the eviction algorithm by adding statistics on the number of descendants.

• Nervosnetwork/faster-hex has been upgraded to version 0.8.0, offering new support for serde serialization
  • Bump version to 0.8.0, Update README.md and CHANGELOG.md faster-hex#30

Fixed

• Resolved an issue that prevented ckb init from creating config files for unsupported chains
  • Fix: ckb init creates config files even when an unsupported spec is specified. #4012
• Fixed a failing unit test in CKB VM related to suspend/resume
  • Ensure random_2_in_2_out_rtx() suspends on first execution #4027
• Addressed an OpenSSL security warning
  • Fix RUSTSEC-2023-0044 warning #4030

In pipeline…

• Continued enhancement of the Rust toolchain for CKB contracts. This includes:
  • Experimenting with replacing GCC with Clang, and removing GNU from the toolchain
  • Provide pre-built binaries for macOS x86 & aarch64 (for Apple M1, M2 chips)
• Troubleshooting the CKB graceful shutdown issue Wait tokio tasks finish before CKB process exit #3999
• Finish the PoC for swapping CKB and SUDT via CKB Open Transaction. We'll soon share a detailed report summarizing our progress and findings.
