Hi everyone, I'm a new contributor and took a stab on this issue to get acquainted with the community!

As I don't have commit access to this repository, I can't request for review using the GitHub interface, so I'm tagging @chowdhurian manually for review 😄

Hey @tanhengyeow! Welcome!

Love the update, but looks like there are conflicts in GOVERNANCE.md – happy to pull this in once they're resolved!

Also, how can I help you get hooked in with CommComm initiatives? Have something you have your eye on? 🙂

Hi @amiller-gh! Nice to meet you! I've resolved the conflict!

My interest lies in front-end/UX engineering and I'm super excited to know that Node.js is driven by an awesome community behind the scenes!

I was initially here for the mentorship program and I tried to poke around repositories to see which ones I would like to be part of, which caused me to end up here :) I've not filled up the mentee form yet and I'm aware that the waiting list is quite long (thus I went ahead and start to find beginner issues to contribute to first).

I've gathered the working groups I would love to be a part of based on my interests:

  1. Website Redesign
I'm more inclined towards the development side and I'm aware that the website redesign is undergoing the UI Design and Content Creation phase. UI/UX design is an area which I have little experience on. However, I am willing to learn and gain more experience in it as this I believe front-end devs would benefit from UI/UX design experience. I'm guessing that after the website is redesigned and deployed, there wouldn't be a need for much manpower for maintenance compared to other working groups (please correct me if I'm wrong) so I also identified other working groups that I'm interested in.

  2. i18n
Making information accessible and useful to everyone has always been on my mind whenever I'm doing development work. I've read the current trajectory for the i18n team and the impact of the work done by the team resonates alot with me. I'm more interested in the development side of things and have identified some areas (open to other areas as well) I would love to help out/get mentored in:

  • Maintain the potential nodejs-i18n module as seen in this PR
  • Develop/maintain potential future npm modules related to i18n
  • Developing bots to manage stuff (an example would be in this PR)
  1. Streams
Although not directly affiliated with CommComm, still a pretty cool working group that I'm interested in as it involves JavaScript work and I use the Streams API before :)
