We should compile a list of authors for the paper.

What criteria are we using? A straightforward choice would be to say everyone who has submitted any code to the repo is on the paper. Let me know what you think.

We are close to submitting the JOSS paper, so I'd like to follow up on the question of authorship.

First off, we invite anyone who has contributed code to be an author on the manuscript. The following list shows everyone who has contributed thus far:

$ git shortlog -s -n
   256 NoraLoose
    70 Ryan Abernathey
    63 Ian Grooms
    33 Julius Busecke
    14 Gustavo Marques
    10 Hemant Khatri
     6 Nora Loose
     2 Scott Bachman

There are also a few outstanding PRs, which we should try to merge before submission. Anyone involved in those PRs would be added to this list. Taken together, this includes @rabernat, @iangrooms, @jbusecke, @gustavo-marques, @hmkhatri, @sdbachman, @arthurBarthe, @ElizabethYankovsky, @asross, @jakesteinberg.

Secondly, we have had a lot of useful discussions about the package, also involving folks who haven't directly contributed code. JOSS gives the following guidance for non-code-based contributions:

Purely financial (such as being named on an award) and organizational (such as general supervision of a research group) contributions are not considered sufficient for co-authorship of JOSS submissions, but active project direction and other forms of non-code contributions are. The authors themselves assume responsibility for deciding who should be credited with co-authorship, and co-authors must always agree to be listed. In addition, co-authors agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work, and to notify JOSS if any retraction or correction of mistakes are needed after publication.

Based on this guidance, we would like to invite anyone who has contributed in such ways and wants to be a co-author.

TL;DR: Please comment here if you would like to be an author on the manuscript. Please include your orcid and affiliation. You can find a draft of the paper here, comments can be made in this PR. Thanks!

Hi all! We would like to move forward with the paper submission. As mentioned above, I need

  • your affiliation,
  • your ORCID,
  • agreement to be listed as a co-author.

Please post this info below by Friday, October 29th.

If you'd like, you can also provide comments on the paper draft.

Thanks!
