// For backwards compatibility we allow both snake_case config paths as well as the
// idiomatic kebab-case paths.

Not sure how important it is to keep backwards compatibility here, since this is not a documented feature. If it is not important I can get rid of this code.

It seems that @Eh2406 is away. @alexcrichton Can you please re-assign me another reviewer?

Indeed I was out yesterday, but our turnaround time is not that fast in general.

This basically looks good. I think there may be more conversation that this PR relates to that is not linked? Why are we adding this "backwards compatibility" now? Did it regres recently?

Oh, sorry. It was not because I didn't get a reply, it was because I looked at your github profile and didn't see activity for a few days 🙂

Not really. I just wanted to use sccache globally and setting the envvar RUSTC_WRAPPER was not ideal since I run cargo from multiple sources (not only from my shell).

I looked at cargo's source to see if there was another way and I was happy to see this undocumented configuration, but it was using snake_case instead of the kebab-case which is used for all other configurations.

Why are we adding this "backwards compatibility" now? Did it regres recently?

The backwards compatibility thing is just to avoid breaking the configuration for people that might be defining build.rustc_wrapper in the configuration file. Not sure if it is worth doing it, given that it was an undocumented config.
