GENIVI git repos out of sync #10
Comments
Yes, I agree the projects are somewhat fragmented across GENIVI and Github repos. There is some code on GENIVI that isn't on GitHub yet, so we don't want to lose any of that history if possible. The easiest solution might be to force push the master branches of each repo to GENIVI for now and work on a more permanent solution in 2015. We don't want to deprecate the GENIVI repos, we just haven't had the time to get this done yet. |
Okay, cool. That's good to know. Syncing the repos can likely wait until 2015. I do have a question about a license in one of the repos however. Its here: http://git.projects.genivi.org/?p=smartdevicelink.git;a=tree;f=src/components/qt_hmi/References/Look/Fonts/HelveticaNeue+FinalDeliveryCorrect_13112011;h=a9185217a19ef8ec325683da23769fbbe3960120;hb=HEAD The file is called "EVALUATION USE LICENSE AGREEMENT.doc". It looks to be an agreement with Ford and I'm not certain that GENIVI is, or is even allowed to be a party to that license. I wonder if you might check internally with Ford or your team to see if this is something that GENIVI should be hosting. I'll double check with our folks too. Cheers! |
Jeremiah -- thank you for bringing this to our attention. We definitely need to remove this...Ford has a license to use the font, but we cannot provide that, or our license. We should remove this component and replace with an appropriate, open source font. @justinjdickow can you add this to our call's agenda? |
@jeremiah Good catch! Just for reference - it appears this version of SDL is using a different font: It's going to take me some time to review how that's being used in the genivi version before I just rip it out of there. |
Okay, sounds like a plan. Once the fonts (which look like fonts iOS uses) Thanks! On Wed, Dec 17, 2014 at 3:54 AM, Justin Dickow notifications@github.com

Hi,
The last commit I have from the smartdevicelink repo in GENIVI is from June; http://git.projects.genivi.org/?p=smartdevicelink.git;a=summary
This seems to imply that the GENIVI git repos for SDL have gone out of sync. This might mean that if there are people only following the GENIVI repos, then they will be following an older code base which might contain bugs and likely won't contain the latest and greatest. Also, there may be licenses and other collateral that might be out of date or inaccurate.
I think we should either sync up the GENIVI repos so that they are a mirror of what is pushed to github, or we should deprecate the GENIVI repos altogether. The current situation is confusing for SDL users and for GENIVI since we get questions about SDL that we can't really answer.
What do you folks think?
