netCDF
- Ethan Davis brought up the potential to map between CF Standard Names and GRIB/BUFR; there are also efforts to map CF to I-Adopt; (Marijana) Would you like to present this at an upcoming meeting so we can discuss how to map? (Ethan) this would be good, but it's in a very premature state at the moment. Time frame for starting this up in TBD; (Lars) it's come up in the past, but not sure how/when; (Anna) would it be helpful to have the GRIB and BUFR codes on WMO Codes Registry as a first step for this mapping? (Ethan) yes, along with NERC etc. Mappings can be done independently, but registries are useful too. (Lars) Enhancement to the WMO Code registry would be useful, e.g. what quantities mean; (Marijana) we can start with a subset of oceanographic values or units (Ethan) mapping will not be a simple process; the I-Adopt concepts can help with this complexity; Not as involved with the mapping efforts as others outside this team; ACTION: Ethan, Daniel, Lars determine the status of mapping efforts on the CF side and who/when someone can present to the et-data group; sometime in the next 3-6 months. (Abderrazak via chat)I think the starting point for netcdf is to study the possibilities offered by this format including variables, dimensions, attributes and namespace. Then see the existing gap in the CF namespace and how to integrate all the metadata of grib and BUFR into the netcdf format.
