Initial request

Align the units in OSCAR Requirements and WIGOS units.

Add unit pT2 Hz-1 for Schumann Resonances (Measurement unit Table 1-02) as used in the Schumann Resonances variable at https://space.oscar.wmo.int/variables/view/schumann_resonances

Amendment details

Add the following to the unit table:

Notation: pT2.Hz-1
Name: picoTesla squared per Hertz
Description: SI derived unit for magnetic power spectrum commonly used to describe Schumann Resonances. SI base unit equivalent: 1E-12 A m-1 s.

Notation: nT2.Hz-1
Name: nanoTesla squared per Hertz
Description: SI derived unit for magnetic power spectrum commonly used to describe Schumann Resonances. SI base unit equivalent: 1E-9 A m-1 s.

@gaochen-larc have you updated this proposal?

I put the proposal in amendment details. should I put it in a table?

Thanks! I think you did it correctly. Will you have time to update the branch?

Just add these two units to Table 1-02. Hope I did correctly

  • Gao updated the branch, note that the units should be on different lines so they are in alphabetical order
  • @joergklausen review unit values

@gaochen-larc @amilan17 I have the feeling that these units are actually not addressing the issue. From my reading (and I am not an expert), there is the magnetic and the electrical dimension of Schumann resonances. I have found more information (including from Wikipedia) about the electrical dimension. For that, the units should be microvolts per meter. Why did you propose a unit for magnetic fields?

I proposed these units per initial request. I have also seen these units used in a few papers on Schumann resonances.

Why did you propose a unit for magnetic fields?
@joergklausen - the original request was to align the units in OSCAR Requirements and WIGOS units. I updated the issue summary.

I guess we just need to incorporate the oscar unit into the WIGOS code. Should we use use the OSCAR definition?
