Previewed here, with most changes being the new "State" section.

Adds AVM State section. Adds "Type Definitions" section. Tweaks Circuit I/O.

I still have a lot to do here, but this is an incremental PR.

Follow-up work:

  1. Decide if world state access trace entries should have call-ptr or contract address and end lifetime.
  2. Clean up mentions of contractCalls and decide whether it belongs in the world state access trace.
  3. Formally define clk and callPtr as part of state (maybe session-level state).
  4. Clean up Circuit I/O and put in tables instead of pseudocode
  5. Add descriptions to state & context tables
  6. Add world state access instructions to instruction set!

@dbanks12 dbanks12 added A-documentation Area: relates to documentation C-avm Component: AVM related tickets (aka public VM) labels Feb 6, 2024

### AVM World State

The AVM does not directly modify Aztec state. Instead, it stages modifications to be applied later pending successful execution. As part of each execution context, the AVM maintains **world state** which is a representation of Aztec state that includes _staged_ modifications.

I think not implementing changes immediately is more of an optimisation / implemention detail

Hmm, maybe.... I feel like it's important to note that the AVM doesn't own Aztec state. And even though it might be a bit in the weeds, I feel like it's helpful for the reader to understand that each context maintains its own staged modifications that may or may not be accepted by the caller. And for the TX itself, "accepting" means committing to Aztec state.

Decided to leave this in there for now.... Can still be convinced to remove later.
