Sound

In Horror games, the sound plays a very important role on setting the ambient of the game. Sound can help control the players emotion, ramping up the intensiveness of the action whenever necessary and decreasing it when it suits the game experience.

Jumpscares

In Damian's Delusion the absence of sound contrasted with a sudden loud sound was utilized a lot in trying to scare the player. Walking through the Asylum, the only noise playing is almost only the player's footstep sounds. This very repetitive and simple sound makes the player ignore the sound inputs because they have little meaning in terms of gameplay. When a loud sound is played (like the initial jumpscare in the game), the player is startled and thus the game's action picks up.

Ambient

A few ambient sounds were added to the Asylum in order to increase immersion ( the dropping water sounds in the bathroom or the buzzing lights for example).

NPC's

Due to the scale of the project, the game does not include full dialogue sounds but rather simple vocal mumbles to help the player recognize the speech UI.
