The LTFS is the filesystem to mount a single tape drive as a filesystem. The LTFS using FUSE to make it filesystem.
The first target is LTO5 or later and IBM enterprise tape. But technically any tape drive that supports partitioning feature can be supported.
Objective of this project is being the reference implementation of the LTFS format Specifications in SNIA (https://www.snia.org/tech_activities/standards/curr_standards/ltfs).
At this time, the LTFS format specifications 2.4 is the target (https://www.snia.org/sites/default/files/technical_work/LTFS/LTFS_Format_2.4.0_TechPosition.pdf).
The data placement on the tape is defined by the LTFS format specifications.
