Where

Code Camp-II will be held at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), UK, home to ISIS & the Diamond Light Source .

\

When

The Camp will formally run from the morning of Monday 31 March until lunchtime on Sunday 6 April 2014 but, by prior arrangement, participants are welcome to ask to arrive earlier or stay on into the following week.

It is planned that there will be a 'meet-and-greet' over dinner on the evening of Sunday 30 March.

\

Getting to/from RAL

The nearest international airport is London Heathrow ( LHR ). Journey time by car or taxi (latter is ~£120 one way) is approximately 50 min.

The nearest railway station is Didcot Parkway (DID) on the mainline from London Paddington (PAD), about 15 min from Reading (RDG). Journey time to Didcot from Paddington is approximately 45 min. For service information see the National Rail website.

Paddington is connected to Heathrow by the Heathrow Express rail service.

Reading is connected to Heathrow by the Rail Air coach service.

Taxis between Didcot at RAL cost ~£12, or there is a bus service (service numbers 32/X1/X32 ). Get off at the Harwell Campus Bus Station.

\

Taxis

There are a number of taxi companies in the Didcot/RAL area, and several do airport transfers. To assist you, here is a list taken from Google (in the order the search engine returned them; no particular endorsement is implied):

\

Cost

There is no registration fee for the Camp. Participants will be responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and subsistence (meals) costs. Refreshments will be provided.

\

Formalities

All external (non-STFC/non-Diamond/non-RC@H) participants will need to be pre-registered by the Local Organiser in order to get a Site Pass and wireless network access. Please email the Local Organiser your arrival and departure dates.

A Site Pass is not necessary to access the Visitor [Guesthouse]{} , but is necessary to access the RAL Restaurant!

The registration deadline is March 1 2014.

NOTE: Please would internal participants also contact the Local Organiser so that a track can be kept on attendance

\

Accommodation

There is only limited accommodation in the immediate vicinity of RAL and so if participants do not wish to commute each day they are strongly encouraged to use the RAL Visitor Guesthouse, 'Ridgeway House' . Please note: Ridgeway is now fully booked (17 Dec).

The suggested alternative accommodation is at the 'Premier Inn' (a chain motel) at the Milton Interchange, Milton, Nr Didcot, Oxon OX14 4TX. This is 4 miles from RAL and 2 miles from the centre of Didcot (but does have its own ‘pub’/restaurant – and even a MacDonalds next door for our North American participants!).

At least one participant has chosen to stay at the Four Pillars Hotel in Abingdon. This is 8 miles from RAL and 1 mile from the centre of Abingdon. This option really requires a hire car (there is a bus but the journey is ~1 hour). NOTE: There is also a Four Pillars Hotel in Oxford; you DO NOT want that one !

If you do not mind sharing an apartment (with separate bedrooms!) with another participant you might consider the Chilton Apartments . The village of Chilton is 1 mile from RAL and you could easily walk in. If this option interests you, talk to Paul Butler. NOTE: There are no shops/stores in Chilton, but there is a pub !

\

Housekeeping

Whilst it may be possible for ISIS to provide a limited number of desktop Windows PCs, participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own computing hardware for the Camp so that they gain familiarity in developing SasView in an environment they use naturally.

The venue is equipped with wireless networking (including Eduroam), a limited number of fixed network sockets (if needed), and a data projector.
