CodeCampXI
September 15-23, 2023
The 2023 Code Camp will be in Oxfordshire, England, in part at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), home to the ISIS Neutron Source & the Diamond Synchrotron, and in part at The Cosener's House (TCH), Abingdon, beside the River Thames, about 30 mins away.
Location of RAL
Location of TCH
Transportation to move location to TCH will be arranged for those that need it.
The closest main airports are (times are by road in normal traffic): London Heathrow* (LHR, 50 min), Birmingham International* (BHX, 90 min), London Gatwick+ (LGW, 100 mins) & London Stanstead+ (STN, 120 mins). The following regional airports serve a number of European destinations: Southampton* (SOU, 60 min), London Luton* (LTN, 90 mins), Bristol (BRS, 100 min), Cardiff (CWL, 130 mins) & London City* (LCY, 140 min). Those with an asterisk (*) have good rail connections, those with a plus (+) have reasonable rail connections. The remainder require a connecting bus service.
By way of a guide, a taxi from LHR to RAL will cost ~£130, and slightly more from TCH.
The closest railway station is Didcot Parkway (DID) on the mainline between London Paddington (PAD)/Reading (RDG) in the east, and Bristol (BTM)/Cardiff (CDF) in the west. If travelling from Birmingham International (BHI), change at Oxford (OXF) for a local service to Didcot Parkway. To travel from Europe to Didcot Parkway, take a a Eurostar service to London St Pancras, London Underground ('tube') to London Paddington, and then either an express (40 min) or local stopping (60 min) service to Didcot Parkway.
Several buses serve the Harwell Campus, where RAL is located, from Didcot Parkway. Alternatively a taxi will charge ~£12.
The nearest cruise terminal is Southampton.
From 15th-19th accommodation will be at Ridgeway House, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus, Didcot OX11 0QX.
From 19th-23rd accommodation will be at The Cosener's House, 15-16 Abbey Close, Abingdon OX14 3JD.
The costs will be £72 a night for a single room and will _not _include evening food and drinks. Double rooms are available for £30 more at Cosener’s. The costs are the same at both locations. I have been assured that ISIS will cover daytime catering.
