Transferring this to RSR as it should be on rsr.akvo.org.

akvo/akvo-web#21

  1. The 'all projects' RSS feed is missing.
  2. When you try to run the RSS feed for all projects it does not work, it also seems to create massive Apache processes on the server

The All-updates feed does work, though it is very slow and creates a large Apache process: http://rsr.akvo.org/rss/all-updates/ But I have managed to pull all updates from this today.

We should run a benchmark test on the current performance.
When we have moved to CloudVPS and Nginx we should run this again to see if Apache -> Nginx has improved things.

Then we need to decide what code changes need to be made for improvement.

When we know the link will not "break" the live server, we can put the link into the new website.

Depends on #329

Since the CloudVPS migration and upgrading the RSR server resources the RSS feeds now return most of the time but we still have some timeout issues now and then. We'll have to investigate the timeouts further and perhaps install Varnish caching to see if that eliminates the timeouts.

We've limited the all-updates feed to the last 100 items now as per discussion with @lauraroverts so we can decide whether to expose this feed on the akvo.org site again.

@adriancollier: Should we replace the link to the 'all updates' feed or will this feed only be used internally now?

I think we should replace it and put it back on the site 😄

Isn't this link on the Wordpress side of the site?

It used to be on the previous home page so perhaps time to find a new spot for it?

@loicsans Any idea where we should put an RSS Feed for RSR Project Updates?

Link to go into Akvo-web so I have created the issue there.
