FireGear™

FireGear™ is the FirePick repository for 3D-printed (3DP) gears and other common parts shared by multiple FirePick™ projects. The gears are organized into collections that work together. Unless otherwise noted, all designs are 3D printable in PLA.

Herringbone gears are familiar to anyone with a 3D printer, since they are used in the 3DP extruders to drive the hobbed bolt. Herringbone gears are self-aligning, which makes them ideal for transferring power between 3DP plastic parts that can wear and flex. They also minimize backlash on changes of direction.

Triangular herringbone gears are not involute, which makes them noisy and inefficient in comparison with involute gears. However, it is much easier to design and customize triangular gears with minimal effort.

Involute Gears

FireGear will eventually include involute gears that can be used to replace H20 gear combinations with their involute counterparts.

Flywheels

FireGear also includes flywheels for increasing the performance of your stepper motors

Washers

FireGear washers have known dimensions for specific use. Regular metal washers may work as well, but their dimensions are rarely consistent.

Cable Chain

FireGear cable chains are designed to work with the 20mm aluminum extrusions used extensively in FirePick™ projects.

Cases

FireGear PCB cases mount directly to 20mm aluminum extrusions used extensively in FirePick™ projects. These are maker cases intended for ongoing projects requiring continuous modification.

Panels

FireGear panels mount directly to 20mm aluminum extrusions. Each panel holds multiple components wired together for particular use.

Tools

FireGear tools have dimensions for specific use. Regular metal tools may work as well, but their dimensions are rarely consistent.
