2014 02 27 meeting
Attendees: Dan, Joel, Kyle, Chris, Adam, Zack, Lou, Casey, Google Effects
Non-Profit is more trouble than it's worth.
Non-Stock means we don't have to divide assets upon dissolution, & the board structure is a bit different. Wiggin & Dana did the docs like this for MakeHaven (though MakeHaven IS filed w/ intent to be a non-profit).
We'll have a delegation go meet w/ Wiggin: Kyle, Joel, & Chris are on the team.
We'll go 9/6, to avoid labor day weekend.
Casey will make the reservation, for the biggest time slot possible.
Joel: could we LOSE the reservation? Casey will check. Lou: it's always a risk. Kyle: can we get some Yale groups to sponsor, to mitigate that risk? Lou will look for some. Kyle will try to get YEI & CEID(?). Joel: anything else we can do, too, even a small donation? It would suck to find ourselves homeless in August. Chris' boss can toss us some cash, too. Lou: let's make a 1-pager to leave around Yale, to pitch the conf's value. Dan will start a google doc for the 1-pager.
Dan started a list of [possible keynote speakers]. It's largely Rubyists. If you know of a potential speaker, add them to the list.
Casey would like something to send to Yale students, but we don't have anything yet. When we work on the 1-pager, that should help this.
Melanie sent out some great initial t-shirt designs.
Yow, the site doesn't work when meetup is down. =/
For the conf, we can add /conf to this.
Kyle & Joel & Chris will tell us about their incorporation adventure.
Think about which of these areas you'd like to work on for the conf:
- Location affairs (venue, hotel, parties, catering, equipment, wifi)
- Administration (ticket sales, attendee database, customer support)
- Marketing (media partners, social media, website)
- Speakers' affairs
- Sponsor affairs
We'll look over the 1-pager, & form some sub-teams for working on the conf. Dan will bring a list of next-things-we-have-to-do.
