Slice View is a convenience operator. It will make a series of changes to the 3DView settings that create 3 orthogonal slices through the scene, and one slice which can be rotated.
This allows 2D slices of all the models to be visualized. In addition, the view is locked to the 3D cursor, allowing accurate positioning of the view by clicking in any of the views, the 3d cursor will be moved, and all the views will move correspondingly.
In reality, this operator is just a change in settings and using built in Blender oprators. In detail, the following operators are used and settings changed.
- The Toggle Quad View operator is called, splitting the view
- The clip beginning and end are set to .1 and 1.1 providing a 1mm thick slice
- The view location is locked to the 3D Cursor, allowing for accurate placement of slices
Call the "Normal View" operator to remove the quad view and the reset all the settings.
