You need to create an MCP. |
Do I? I am a bit confused. Although it says that an MCP might be necessary in the Tier 3 target policy, I was under the impression that for the start, it should be enough to address the Tier 3 target policy in the PR description, as described in "Adding a new target" and as stated by @workingjubilee (#112936 (comment)). If I need to create one, though, I'll happily do so in the coming days. |
hm, looks like it. well then you're fine^^ |
Yes, all it needs is a compiler team member's signoff:
But they may choose to demand more process:
And a few new target maintainers have preemptively done that, but it is not required, especially for "Ah, another slightly-specialty Linux-like that runs on our existing, well-supported architectures". An example of a PR that adds new tier 3s without an MCP, because they were basically expected to have no additional support considerations, that landed yesterday: Reviewer's discretion, ofc, oli may have factored in "he32 is already a maint for NetBSD" into stamping that one, or whatever. |
I have just added the target to build-manifest, since that's how I have seen others do it (#113535). Please let me know if that was correct. Edit: I also improved platform-support docs links. |

☔ The latest upstream changes (presumably #114004) made this pull request unmergeable. Please resolve the merge conflicts. |

Rebased on latest master. (An unrelated target PR of mine got merged first and created a conflict, since the triplets are lexical neighbors) |

This introduces
x86_64-unikraft-linux-musl
as the first Rust target for the Unikraft Unikernel Development Kit.Unikraft imitates Linux and uses musl as libc.
It is extremely configurable, and does not even provide a
poll
implementation or a network stack, unless enabled by the end user who compiles the application. Our approach for integrating the build process with
rustc
is to hide the build process as well as the actual final linking step behind a linker-shim (kraftld
, see unikraft/kraftkit#612).Tier 3 target policy
I will be the target maintainer.
The target name
x86_64-unikraft-linux-musl
was derived fromx86_64-unknown-linux-musl
, setting Unikraft as vendor.Unikraft exactly imitates Linux + musl.
No dependencies were added to Rust.
Requirements for linking are Unikraft and KraftKit (both BSD-3-Clause), but none of these are added to Rust.
Understood.
I am not a member of a Rust team.
Understood.
std
is supported.Building is described in the platform support doc.
It will be updated once proper
kraftld
support has landed.Understood.
I don't think this PR breaks anything.
