Feature Request: Ctrl+Up/Ctrl+Down to switch to next conversation #512
Comments
Okay, it seems like extensions are not allowed to grab certain key combinations. Another idea would be to use Ctrl+Up/Ctrl+Down. |
[I commented wrong information, sorry] |
I would love this feature as well ( to be able to switch between conversations on some predefined hotkey combination) |
I would suggest Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3, for quick switching between conversations as well as Alt+Up, Alt+Down for going between above and below conversations. I like Alt because that's the same key combination for selecting individual tabs in the main browser as well. Allowing users to set custom ones would be wonderful as well. :-) |
Telegram Desktop and Microsoft Outlook are both using Alt+Arrows for switching conversations/mails. |
Slack and Facebook Messenger also use |
This is related to some issues: signalapp#512, signalapp#1104, signalapp#3154. This work is based on an existing closed PR (signalapp#2042) by @colefranz.
It seems that alt+arrows works, it would also be great if alt+number and/or alt+j/k (for vim) worked |

I just checked and Thanks to the maintainer team! |
As far as I know, one can only change the conversation by clicking on the conversation in the list.
It would be awesome to be able to do this with a keyboard shortcut as well.
Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab are common ways to switch tabs in a browser.
As the conversations can be seen as tabs, I would suggest adopting those shortcuts.
Going to the next open conversation in the list with Ctrl+Tab
Going to the previous conversation in the list with Ctrl+Shift+Tab.
Currently those shortcuts do nothing.
Version 0.1.3 (
I do not know how to update, maybe another issue)Arch Linux
Edit: Signal just updated and this is still the case in Version 0.1.4
Edit 2: Adjusted title. See comment below.
