Social Media: Instagram

Goal

Share news posts in Instagram including the link to each post. This cannot be automated through WordPress as with Twitter and Facebook.

Solution

• As of May 2022, we can now post to Instagram through the web instead of mobile device, so we no longer need a third party solution (like Later.com).
• We have a link in our bio (the single URL allowed by Instagram) which allows us to share a URL with every post. That page is https://www.library.ucsf.edu/linkinbio with some setup inspiration from Elementor.
• For a post to appear there, it must have the tag: linkinbio

Steps

1. log into Instagram
2. create a new post
3. add at least one image, usually the featured image from the news post
4. for the caption, use the news post title plus this text: --> Visit link in bio to read more
5. under Accessibility, add alt text for the image before posting
