Logs files can be very helpfull when you have an issue.

Here are the locations of all the log files (depending on the service you are running on which host):

/var/log/tomcat*/catalina.out
/var/log/tomcat*/*.txt
/var/log/cassandra/*.log
/var/log/atlas/
/opt/solr-*/server/logs/solr.log
/data/ala/data/geoserver_data_dir/logs/geoserver.log
/var/log/apache2/
/var/log/nginx/
