Species pages and species level traits
We can continue our basic configuration and use of our LA services, loading data into BIE and Species Lists tool.
- Load DwCA with an extension into BIE using the admin interface at
/bie-index/admin
. An example DwCA archive is here. This is s subset of GBIF Backbone Taxonomy containing only Mammals. To load the archive,scp
the file to/data/bie/import/
of your server hosting your BIE service, and extract. Note: you made to change the permissions of the uploaded archive (chown -R tomcat7:tomcat7 /data/bie/import/dwc-a
). Go to "DwCA Import" to import it. Once theDwC
archive has loaded, you need to swap theSOLR
cores using theSOLR
web interface (see above for how to create SSH tunnel to see SOLR interface). InSOLR
admin, chose “Core admin” and then select the BIE core and then the “swap” button. More info here and here. - Upload a CSV of trait information into species lists list service. Mark the list as “Authoritative” for it to appear on species pages.
- Use that species list in the spatial portal to load a number of species in one layer.
- Index against the list.
We can also configure preferred Images of Species. This is a functionality that highlight images as "preferred" in species searches.
That is basically a species list that "stores" all the species with preferred portal images. That species list can be configured in a global ansible variable specieslist_preferredDruid
.
Searching for species, you can star a preferred image (that basically it adds it to that species list and it's the one that is shown first).
In ALA this list is this one:
- https://lists.ala.org.au/speciesListItem/list/dr4778
- https://lists.ala.org.au/speciesListItem/list/dr4778?q=Raven
- https://bie.ala.org.au/species/https://biodiversity.org.au/afd/taxa/713303da-f7b7-47a9-8ba1-2880941f9d28
You should add to your inventories something like (following the ALA example):
specieslist_preferredDruid=dr4778
specieslist_preferredListName=ALA Preferred Species Images
In /data/bie-index/config/hidden-images-lists.json
you can setup a list with images to hide. See the ALA hidden image list for a sample.
Similarly, in /data/bie-index/config/wiki-lists.json
you can setup a list of wikipedia pages you want to link to your species. See the ALA Species Wikipedia URL.
You can start such a list with something like:
scientificname,commonname,kingdom,url
Onopordum macracanthum Schousb.,cardo borriquero,plantae,hide
You can remove later that specie.
