Roadmap

Mark Rotteveel edited this page May 2, 2020 · 6 revisions

The roadmap below is only our estimates, significant changes may happen during development.

Released versions

Jaybird 4

Jaybird 4 is the current release branch (Branch_4_0). We will release new versions when needed.

Focus of Jaybird 4.0.x is bug fixes, but occasionally we will also introduce improvements that we think can't wait until Jaybird 5.

Currently we are planning to release Jaybird 4.0.1 in August 2020 (or earlier when Firebird 4 is released before that time). See the Firebird tracker for Jaybird 4.0.1 for details on the bugs to be fixed.

Jaybird 3.1

The version initially announced as Jaybird 3.1 has been renumbered to Jaybird 4.

Jaybird 3

Jaybird 3 is the previous release branch (Branch_3_0). We will release new versions when needed.

Focus of Jaybird 3.0.x is bug fixes. We recommend upgrading to Jaybird 4.

Currently we are planning to release Jaybird 3.0.9 in August 2020. See the Firebird tracker for Jaybird 3.0.9 for details on the bugs to be fixed.

Jaybird 2.3

Jaybird 2.3 has been renumbered to Jaybird 3 due to the large number of changes which might affect compatibility with previous versions of Jaybird. For details see Jaybird 3.

Jaybird 2.2.x

Jaybird 2.2.x is a previous release branch (Branch_2_2). Jaybird 2.2.15 is the last release of Jaybird 2.2.x, and no future versions are planned.

Jaybird 2.2 is end-of-life and we recommend upgrading to Jaybird 4.

Planned versions

Jaybird 5

The planning for Jaybird 5 is fluid. Jaybird 5 will focus on restructuring Jaybird to remove the dependency on JCA (done), and general code cleanup and refactoring. In addition, we might implement additional protocol improvements of Firebird 4 (ie the batch protocol).

Jaybird 5 will drop support for Java 7, and - depending on the release timeline - may drop support for Java 8.

See the Firebird tracker for Jaybird 5 for items currently planned. Note that presence on the list does not necessarily mean the change will actually make it into Jaybird 5.
