It does fix the problem for the UI but the internal state is outdated. If we have two sets of hits (regular, infinite) we can notice the difference. A possible solution when showPrevious is disabled might be to use the current page or fall back to 0. It would have the same behavior than hits + pagination.
The widget would have a weird behavior when another widget is removed though. The page won't be reset because no reset happens so it will stick at the current page (same as hits + pagination). The weird part is that the list gets reset (since a state change happens), which means that we are at page X without the previous results.

Updated the condition to get the current page, should be more coherent now.
For the behavior when we remove a widget, the main issue is that we do not reset the page when a widget with some refinements is removed. I don't think this is related to the infinite hits in particular (even if the behavior is more problematic for it since we cannot go back if showPrevious is disabled).

Yes it's not related but as you said it's a bit more problematic with infiniteHits. At the moment the behavior is a bit weird but nobody complains about that in React InstantSearch (we have the same behavior). We can think of a proper solution later.

The weird part like I said before with this solution is that the state gets outdated:
