This is usually a timeout / resource limit problem.

I think this is largely fixed by some related fixes done to the buildkite agent configuration. We don't appear to need to do anything special to take on those changes.

What agent settings did you change to fix this issue? Or what specific resources did you find were limited? @turt2live

Unfortunately our internal notes of the incident don't reveal the cause, but we were early in our BuildKite journey at the time. Vague direction points to a possible CloudFormation issue, but no idea what that is.

We were also having slow builds at the time, which we believed were memory pressure.

fwiw, we're now on GitHub Actions and have run away from Buildkite - it just wasn't able to provide us the combination of security, speed, and usefulness we needed. Cost was also a factor.
