WARNING on ft-11aa #13
Comments
The warning takes place in kernel/softirq.c:159:
This function attempts to re-enable soft irqs, and the error is triggered when this happens inside an execution context where they should be disabled. This can happen with nested spin_lock_bh() calls: the inner lock will attept to re-enable soft irqs, but that is forbidden by the outer lock. The above stack trace shows us where this is happening: ieee80211aa_handle_ba()
-> spin_lock_bh(&p->lock);
ieee80211aa_process_ba()
-> ieee80211aa_apply_ba_scoreboard()
-> ieee80211aa_retransmit()
-> // eventually calls the driver tx function which takes another bh spinlock
spin_unlock_bh(); I think there are ways to allow nested spinlocks_bh, but the real question is... do we really need to hold this spin lock all the way into the transmit path? Can't we just copy whatever information we need from the rmc entry ( |
When a cpu is hotpluged, we call acpi_map_cpu2node() in _acpi_map_lsapic() to store the cpu's node and apicid's node. But we don't clear the cpu's node in acpi_unmap_lsapic() when this cpu is hotremoved. If the node is also hotremoved, we will get the following messages: kernel BUG at include/linux/gfp.h:329! invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP Modules linked in: ebtable_nat ebtables ipt_MASQUERADE iptable_nat nf_nat xt_CHECKSUM iptable_mangle bridge stp llc sunrpc ipt_REJECT nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 iptable_filter ip_tables ip6t_REJECT nf_conntrack_ipv6 nf_defrag_ipv6 xt_state nf_conntrack ip6table_filter ip6_tables binfmt_misc dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod vhost_net macvtap macvlan tun uinput iTCO_wdt iTCO_vendor_support coretemp kvm_intel kvm crc32c_intel microcode pcspkr i2c_i801 i2c_core lpc_ich mfd_core ioatdma e1000e i7core_edac edac_core sg acpi_memhotplug igb dca sd_mod crc_t10dif megaraid_sas mptsas mptscsih mptbase scsi_transport_sas scsi_mod Pid: 3126, comm: init Not tainted 3.6.0-rc3-tangchen-hostbridge+ #13 FUJITSU-SV PRIMEQUEST 1800E/SB RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff811bc3fd>] [<ffffffff811bc3fd>] allocate_slab+0x28d/0x300 RSP: 0018:ffff88078a049cf8 EFLAGS: 00010246 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: 0000000000000001 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 0000000000000001 RSI: 0000000000000001 RDI: 0000000000000246 RBP: ffff88078a049d38 R08: 00000000000040d0 R09: 0000000000000001 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000b5f R12: 00000000000052d0 R13: ffff8807c1417300 R14: 0000000000030038 R15: 0000000000000003 FS: 00007fa9b1b44700(0000) GS:ffff8807c3800000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 000000008005003b CR2: 00007fa9b09acca0 CR3: 000000078b855000 CR4: 00000000000007e0 DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000ffff0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 Process init (pid: 3126, threadinfo ffff88078a048000, task ffff8807bb6f2650) Call Trace: new_slab+0x30/0x1b0 __slab_alloc+0x358/0x4c0 kmem_cache_alloc_node_trace+0xb4/0x1e0 alloc_fair_sched_group+0xd0/0x1b0 sched_create_group+0x3e/0x110 sched_autogroup_create_attach+0x4d/0x180 sys_setsid+0xd4/0xf0 system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b Code: 89 c4 e9 73 fe ff ff 31 c0 89 de 48 c7 c7 45 de 9e 81 44 89 45 c8 e8 22 05 4b 00 85 db 44 8b 45 c8 0f 89 4f ff ff ff 0f 0b eb fe <0f> 0b 90 eb fd 0f 0b eb fe 89 de 48 c7 c7 45 de 9e 81 31 c0 44 RIP [<ffffffff811bc3fd>] allocate_slab+0x28d/0x300 RSP <ffff88078a049cf8> ---[ end trace adf84c90f3fea3e5 ]--- The reason is that the cpu's node is not NUMA_NO_NODE, we will call alloc_pages_exact_node() to alloc memory on the node, but the node is offlined. If the node is onlined, we still need cpu's node. For example: a task on the cpu is sleeped when the cpu is hotremoved. We will choose another cpu to run this task when it is waked up. If we know the cpu's node, we will choose the cpu on the same node first. So we should clear cpu-to-node mapping when the node is offlined. This patch only clears apicid-to-node mapping when the cpu is hotremoved. Stefan Bader dug in this deep and found out that: "That makes it clearer as this will do reserve_memtype(...) --> pat_x_mtrr_type --> mtrr_type_lookup --> __mtrr_type_lookup And that can return -1/0xff in case of MTRR not being enabled/initialized. Which is not the case (given there are no messages for it in dmesg). This is not equal to MTRR_TYPE_WRBACK and thus becomes _PAGE_CACHE_UC_MINUS. It looks like the problem starts early in reserve_memtype: if (!pat_enabled) { /* This is identical to page table setting without PAT */ if (new_type) { if (req_type == _PAGE_CACHE_WC) *new_type = _PAGE_CACHE_UC_MINUS; else *new_type = req_type & _PAGE_CACHE_MASK; } return 0; } This would be what we want, that is clearing the PWT and PCD flags from the supported flags - if pat_enabled is disabled." Commit f9c2a0d "mmc: dw_mmc: Fix PIO mode with support of highmem" introduced a regression since v3.2 making the mmc_test hang on test #13 with a "Data starvation by host timeout" interrupt. This is because, sg_mapping_iter is used to iterate through the data which spans on multiple pages. The problem is detected on unaligned data submission where the code previously checked for !(sg_next(host->sg)) which is true because we only have a single scatter/gather list which then expands to multiple pages. Therefore, the driver incorrectly assumed that this was the last list item and submitted unaligned data to the mmc device. This overflowed the FIFO on the device before all the data were written to it. The code was fixed to only submit unaligned data when we are handling the last sg_miter item by checking whether we reached the desired data length or not. The patch was tested against mmc_test and all the tests passed. …s struct file commit e4daf1f upstream. The following call chain: ------------------------------------------------------------ nfs4_get_vfs_file - nfsd_open - dentry_open - do_dentry_open - __get_file_write_access - get_write_access - return atomic_inc_unless_negative(&inode->i_writecount) ? 0 : -ETXTBSY; ------------------------------------------------------------ can result in the following state: ------------------------------------------------------------ struct nfs4_file { ... fi_fds = {0xffff880c1fa65c80, 0xffffffffffffffe6, 0x0}, fi_access = {{ counter = 0x1 }, { counter = 0x0 }}, ... ------------------------------------------------------------ 1) First time around, in nfs4_get_vfs_file() fp->fi_fds[O_WRONLY] is NULL, hence nfsd_open() is called where we get status set to an error and fp->fi_fds[O_WRONLY] to -ETXTBSY. Thus we do not reach nfs4_file_get_access() and fi_access[O_WRONLY] is not incremented. 2) Second time around, in nfs4_get_vfs_file() fp->fi_fds[O_WRONLY] is NOT NULL (-ETXTBSY), so nfsd_open() is NOT called, but nfs4_file_get_access() IS called and fi_access[O_WRONLY] is incremented. Thus we leave a landmine in the form of the nfs4_file data structure in an incorrect state. 3) Eventually, when __nfs4_file_put_access() is called it finds fi_access[O_WRONLY] being non-zero, it decrements it and calls nfs4_file_put_fd() which tries to fput -ETXTBSY. ------------------------------------------------------------ ... This code assumes that any client using exchange_id is using NFSv4.1, but with the introduction of 4.2 that will no longer true. This main effect of this is that client callbacks will use the same minorversion as that used on the exchange_id. Note that clients are forbidden from mixing 4.1 and 4.2 compounds. (See rfc 5661, section 2.7, #13: "A client MUST NOT attempt to use a stateid, filehandle, or similar returned object from the COMPOUND procedure with minor version X for another COMPOUND procedure with minor version Y, where X != Y.") However, we do not currently attempt to enforce this except in the case of mixing zero minor version with non-zero minor versions. Signed-off-by: J. Bruce Fields <bfields@redhat.com>

When booting secondary CPUs, announce_cpu() is called to show which cpu has been brought up. For example: [ 0.402751] smpboot: Booting Node 0, Processors #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 OK [ 0.525667] smpboot: Booting Node 1, Processors #6 #7 #8 #9 #10 #11 OK [ 0.755592] smpboot: Booting Node 0, Processors #12 #13 #14 #15 #16 #17 OK [ 0.890495] smpboot: Booting Node 1, Processors #18 #19 #20 #21 #22 #23 But the last "OK" is lost, because 'nr_cpu_ids-1' represents the maximum possible cpu id. It should use the maximum present cpu id in case not all CPUs booted up. Fix this in similar way that was done for sysfs_remove_one() by checking if the parent directory has already been removed and bailing out early. Now, after commit bcdde7e, the sysfs directory is removed along with all of its subdirectories that include the SCSI host's sysfs directory and its subdirectories at this point. Consequently, when device_del() is finally called for any child device of the SCSI host and tries to remove its "power" group (which is already gone then), it triggers the above warning. To make the warnings go away, change the removal ordering in ata_port_detach() so that the SCSI host is removed from the port before ata_tport_delete() is called.
