This enables the system to boot without adding additional kernel parameters. Audio is currently not supported in the Linux kernel and we will need support before offering the product. I am holding off approving this pr until this patch contains all support for Threadripper 3.

commit cabe5f8 upstream.

The baseboard of the Logic PD i.MX6 development kit has a power
button routed which can both power down and power up the board.
It can also wake the board from sleep. This functionality was
marked as disabled by default in imx6qdl.dtsi, so it needs to
be explicitly enabled for each board.

This patch enables the snvs power key again.

A hang was observed in the fcport delete path when the device was
responding slow and an issue-lip path (results in session termination) was
taken.

Fix this by issuing logo requests unconditionally.

Because mdadm was running on another cpu to do resize, so bitmap_resize was

And the procedure to keep resize bitmap safe is allocate new storage
space, then quiesce, copy bits, replace bitmap, and re-start.

However the daemon (bitmap_daemon_work) could happen even the array is
quiesced, which means when bitmap_file_clear_bit is triggered by raid1d,
then it thinks it should be fine to access store->filemap since
counts->lock is held, but resize could change the storage without the
protection of the lock.

There exists a deadlock with range_cyclic that has existed forever. If
we loop around with a bio already built we could deadlock with a writer
who has the page locked that we're attempting to write but is waiting on
a page in our bio to be written out. The task traces are as follows

I used drgn to find the respective pages we were stuck on

page_entry.page 0xffffea00fbfc7500 index 8148 bit 15 pid 2167901
page_entry.page 0xffffea00f9bb7400 index 7680 bit 0 pid 1329874

As you can see the kworker is waiting for bit 0 (PG_locked) on index
7680, and aio-dio-invalid is waiting for bit 15 (PG_writeback) on index
8148. aio-dio-invalid has 7680, and the kworker epd looks like the
following

  crash> struct extent_page_data ffffc900297bbbb0
  struct extent_page_data {
    bio = 0xffff889f747ed830,
    tree = 0xffff889eed6ba448,
    extent_locked = 0,
    sync_io = 0
  }

Probably worth mentioning as well that it waits for writeback of the
page to complete while holding a lock on it (at prepare_pages()).

Using drgn I walked the bio pages looking for page
0xffffea00fbfc7500 which is the one we're waiting for writeback on

  bio = Object(prog, 'struct bio', address=0xffff889f747ed830)
  for i in range(0, bio.bi_vcnt.value_()):
      bv = bio.bi_io_vec[i]
      if bv.bv_page.value_() == 0xffffea00fbfc7500:
	  print("FOUND IT")

which validated what I suspected.

The fix for this is simple, flush the epd before we loop back around to
the beginning of the file during writeout.

This fixes a data-race where `atomic_t dynticks` is copied by value. The
copy is performed non-atomically, resulting in a data-race if `dynticks`
is updated concurrently.

It appears that the side effect that starts the shutdown timer was processed
multiple times, which can happen as multiple paths can trigger it. This of
course leads to the BUG halt in add_timer getting called.

Fix seems pretty straightforward, just check before the timer is added if its
already been started. If it has mod the timer instead to min(current
expiration, new expiration)

Its been tested but not confirmed to fix the problem, as the issue has only
occured in production environments where test kernels are enjoined from being
installed. It appears to be a sane fix to me though. Also, recentely,
Jere found a reproducer posted on list to confirm that this resolves the
issues

commit 2b86cb8 upstream.

Be there a platform with the following layout:

      Regular NIC
       |
       +----> DSA master for switch port
               |

After changing DSA back to static lockdep class keys in commit
1a33e10 ("net: partially revert dynamic lockdep key changes"), this

Lockdep keys themselves were added in commit ab92d68 ("net: core:
add generic lockdep keys"), and it's very likely that this splat existed
since then, but I have no real way to check, since this stacked platform
wasn't supported by mainline back then.

>From Taehee's own words:

  This patch was considered that all stackable devices have LLTX flag.
  But the dsa doesn't have LLTX, so this splat happened.
  After this patch, dsa shares the same lockdep class key.
  On the nested dsa interface architecture, which you illustrated,
  the same lockdep class key will be used in __dev_queue_xmit() because
  dsa doesn't have LLTX.
  So that lockdep detects deadlock because the same lockdep class key is
  used recursively although actually the different locks are used.
  There are some ways to fix this problem.

  1. using NETIF_F_LLTX flag.
  If possible, using the LLTX flag is a very clear way for it.
  But I'm so sorry I don't know whether the dsa could have LLTX or not.

  2. using dynamic lockdep again.
  It means that each interface uses a separate lockdep class key.
  So, lockdep will not detect recursive locking.
  But this way has a problem that it could consume lockdep class key
  too many.
  Currently, lockdep can have 8192 lockdep class keys.
   - you can see this number with the following command.
     cat /proc/lockdep_stats
     lock-classes:                         1251 [max: 8192]
     ...
     The [max: 8192] means that the maximum number of lockdep class keys.
  If too many lockdep class keys are registered, lockdep stops to work.
  So, using a dynamic(separated) lockdep class key should be considered
  carefully.
  In addition, updating lockdep class key routine might have to be existing.
  (lockdep_register_key(), lockdep_set_class(), lockdep_unregister_key())

  3. Using lockdep subclass.
  A lockdep class key could have 8 subclasses.
  The different subclass is considered different locks by lockdep
  infrastructure.
  But "lock-classes" is not counted by subclasses.
  So, it could avoid stopping lockdep infrastructure by an overflow of
  lockdep class keys.
  This approach should also have an updating lockdep class key routine.
  (lockdep_set_subclass())

  4. Using nonvalidate lockdep class key.
  The lockdep infrastructure supports nonvalidate lockdep class key type.
  It means this lockdep is not validated by lockdep infrastructure.
  So, the splat will not happen but lockdep couldn't detect real deadlock
  case because lockdep really doesn't validate it.
  I think this should be used for really special cases.
  (lockdep_set_novalidate_class())

Further discussion here:
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/netdev/patch/20200503052220.4536-2-xiyou.wangcong@gmail.com/

There appears to be no negative side-effect to declaring lockless TX for
the DSA virtual interfaces, which means they handle their own locking.
So that's what we do to make the splat go away.

Patch tested in a wide variety of cases: unicast, multicast, PTP, etc.

This is because we're holding the block_group->lock while trying to dump
the free space cache. However we don't need this lock, we just need it
to read the values for the printk, so move the free space cache dumping
outside of the block group lock.

commit 18c850f upstream.

There's long existed a lockdep splat because we open our bdev's under
the ->device_list_mutex at mount time, which acquires the bd_mutex.
Usually this goes unnoticed, but if you do loopback devices at all
suddenly the bd_mutex comes with a whole host of other dependencies,
which results in the splat when you mount a btrfs file system.

Code: Bad RIP value.

Fix this by not holding the ->device_list_mutex at this point. The
device_list_mutex exists to protect us from modifying the device list
while the file system is running.

However it can also be modified by doing a scan on a device. But this
action is specifically protected by the uuid_mutex, which we are holding
here. We cannot race with opening at this point because we have the
->s_mount lock held during the mount. Not having the
->device_list_mutex here is perfectly safe as we're not going to change
the devices at this point.

We received an error report that perf-record caused 'Segmentation fault'
on a newly system (e.g. on the new installed ubuntu).

  (gdb) backtrace
  #0  __read_once_size (size=4, res=<synthetic pointer>, p=0x14) at /root/0-jinyao/acme/tools/include/linux/compiler.h:139

  #6  0x00007fad7823c103 in clone () at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/clone.S:95

The root cause is, evlist__add_bpf_sb_event() just returns 0 if
HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT is not defined (inline function path). So it will
not create a valid evsel for side-band event.

But perf-record still creates BPF side band thread to process the
side-band event, then the error happpens.

We can reproduce this issue by removing the libelf-dev. e.g.
1. apt-get remove libelf-dev
2. perf record -a -- sleep 1

  root@test:~# ./perf record -a -- sleep 1
  perf: Segmentation fault
  Obtained 6 stack frames.

  /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(clone+0x43) [0x7fbfdc73b103]
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

To fix this issue,

1. We either install the missing libraries to let HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT
   be defined.
   e.g. apt-get install libelf-dev and install other related libraries.

2. Use this patch to skip the side-band event setup if HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT
   is not set.

Committer notes:

The side band thread is not used just with BPF, it is also used with
--switch-output-event, so narrow the ifdef to the BPF specific part.

otherwise behaves as before. Note that our findings are against ACPICA

Make sure to check device queue mode in the null_validate_conf() and
return error for NULL_Q_RQ as we don't allow legacy I/O path, without
this patch we get OOPs when queue mode is set to 1 from configfs,
following are repro steps :-

Log load and replay is part of the metadata handle flow during mount
operation. The $MFT record will be loaded and used while replaying logs.
However, a malformed $MFT record, say, has RECORD_FLAG_DIR flag set and
contains an ATTR_ROOT attribute will misguide kernel to treat it as a
directory, and try to free the allocated resources when the
corresponding inode is freed, which will cause an invalid kfree because
the memory hasn't actually been allocated.

[ Upstream commit ef6e199 ]

In the function ieee80211_tx_dequeue() there is a particular locking
sequence:

begin:
	spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock);
	q_stopped = local->queue_stop_reasons[q];
	spin_unlock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock);

However small the chance (increased by ftracetest), an asynchronous
interrupt can occur in between of spin_lock() and spin_unlock(),
and the interrupt routine will attempt to lock the same
&local->queue_stop_reason_lock again.

This will cause a costly reset of the CPU and the wifi device or an
altogether hang in the single CPU and single core scenario.

The only remaining spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock) that
did not disable interrupts was patched, which should prevent any
deadlocks on the same CPU/core and the same wifi device.

This is the probable trace of the deadlock:

commit bdc1c5f upstream.

In binder_transaction_buffer_release() the 'failed_at' offset indicates
the number of objects to clean up. However, this function was changed by
commit 44d8047 ("binder: use standard functions to allocate fds"),
to release all the objects in the buffer when 'failed_at' is zero.

This introduced an issue when a transaction buffer is released without
any objects having been processed so far. In this case, 'failed_at' is
indeed zero yet it is misinterpreted as releasing the entire buffer.

This leads to use-after-free errors where nodes are incorrectly freed
and subsequently accessed. Such is the case in the following KASAN
report:

After the first encap is attached, flow will be added to encap
entry's flows list. If neigh update is running at this time, the
following encaps of the flow can't hold the encap_tbl_lock and
sleep. If neigh update thread is waiting for that flow's init_done,
deadlock happens.

Fix it by holding lock outside of the for loop. If neigh update is
running, prevent encap flows from offloading. Since the lock is held
outside of the for loop, concurrent creation of encap entries is not
allowed. So remove unnecessary wait_for_completion call for res_ready.

[ Upstream commit b684c09 ]

ppc_save_regs() skips one stack frame while saving the CPU register states.
Instead of saving current R1, it pulls the previous stack frame pointer.

When vmcores caused by direct panic call (such as `echo c >
/proc/sysrq-trigger`), are debugged with gdb, gdb fails to show the
backtrace correctly. On further analysis, it was found that it was because
of mismatch between r1 and NIP.

GDB uses NIP to get current function symbol and uses corresponding debug
info of that function to unwind previous frames, but due to the
mismatching r1 and NIP, the unwinding does not work, and it fails to
unwind to the 2nd frame and hence does not show the backtrace.

GDB backtrace with vmcore of kernel without this patch:

---------
(gdb) bt
 #0  0xc0000000002a53e8 in crash_setup_regs (oldregs=<optimized out>,
    newregs=0xc000000004f8f8d8) at ./arch/powerpc/include/asm/kexec.h:69

 #2  0x0000000000000063 in ?? ()
 #3  0xc000000003579320 in ?? ()
---------

Further analysis revealed that the mismatch occurred because
"ppc_save_regs" was saving the previous stack's SP instead of the current
r1. This patch fixes this by storing current r1 in the saved pt_regs.

GDB backtrace with vmcore of patched kernel:

Nick adds:
  So this now saves regs as though it was an interrupt taken in the
  caller, at the instruction after the call to ppc_save_regs, whereas
  previously the NIP was there, but R1 came from the caller's caller and
  that mismatch is what causes gdb's dwarf unwinder to go haywire.

After loading the amd-pstate-ut driver, amd_pstate_ut_check_perf()
and amd_pstate_ut_check_freq() use cpufreq_cpu_get() to get the policy
of the CPU and mark it as busy.

In these functions, cpufreq_cpu_put() should be used to release the
policy, but it is not, so any other entity trying to access the policy
is blocked indefinitely.

One such scenario is when amd_pstate mode is changed, leading to the
following splat:

In 3cb4d5e ("perf trace: Free syscall tp fields in
evsel->priv") it only was freeing if strcmp(evsel->tp_format->system,
"syscalls") returned zero, while the corresponding initialization of
evsel->priv was being performed if it was _not_ zero, i.e. if the tp
system wasn't 'syscalls'.

Just stop looking for that and free it if evsel->priv was set, which
should be equivalent.

Also use the pre-existing evsel_trace__delete() function.

This resolves these leaks, detected with:

While debugging a segfault on 'perf lock contention' without an
available perf.data file I noticed that it was basically calling:

	perf_session__delete(ERR_PTR(-1))

Resulting in:

  (gdb) run lock contention
  Starting program: /root/bin/perf lock contention
  [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
  Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1".
  failed to open perf.data: No such file or directory (try 'perf record' first)

unix_tot_inflight is changed under spin_lock(unix_gc_lock), but

commit d8b90d6 upstream.

When scanning namespaces, it is possible to get valid data from the first
call to nvme_identify_ns() in nvme_alloc_ns(), but not from the second
call in nvme_update_ns_info_block(). In particular, if the NSID becomes
inactive between the two commands, a storage device may return a buffer
filled with zero as per 4.1.5.1. In this case, we can get a kernel crash
due to a divide-by-zero in blk_stack_limits() because ns->lba_shift will
be set to zero.

This happened when the check for valid data was moved out of nvme_identify_ns()
into one of the callers. Fix this by checking in both callers.

When creating ceq_0 during probing irdma, cqp.sc_cqp will be sent as a
cqp_request to cqp->sc_cqp.sq_ring. If the request is pending when
removing the irdma driver or unplugging its aux device, cqp.sc_cqp will be
dereferenced as wrong struct in irdma_free_pending_cqp_request().

This warning is raised because pinctrl-at91-pio4 uses chained IRQ. Whenever
a wake up source configures an IRQ through irq_set_irq_wake, it will
lock the corresponding IRQ desc, and then call irq_set_irq_wake on "parent"
IRQ which will do the same on its own IRQ desc, but since those two locks
share the same class, lockdep reports this as an issue.

Fix lockdep false positive by setting a different class for parent and
children IRQ

Validate next header's offset in ->next_header() so that it isn't
smaller than MID_HEADER_SIZE(server) and then standard_receive3() or
->receive() ends up writing off the end of the buffer because
'pdu_length - MID_HEADER_SIZE(server)' wraps up to a huge length:

A small CIFS buffer (448 bytes) isn't big enough to hold
SMB2_QUERY_INFO request along with user's input data from
CIFS_QUERY_INFO ioctl. That is, if the user passed an input buffer >
344 bytes, the client will memcpy() off the end of @req->Buffer in
SMB2_query_info_init() thus causing the following KASAN splat:

Fix this by increasing size of SMB2_QUERY_INFO request buffers and
validating input length to prevent other callers from overflowing @Req

The session has a header in it which contains a perf env with
bpf_progs. The bpf_progs are accessed by the sideband thread and so
the sideband thread must be stopped before the session is deleted, to
avoid a use after free. This error was detected by AddressSanitizer

ui_browser__show() is capturing the input title that is stack allocated
memory in hist_browser__run().

Avoid a use after return by strdup-ing the string.

Committer notes:

Further explanation from Ian Rogers:

My command line using tui is:
$ sudo bash -c 'rm /tmp/asan.log*; export
ASAN_OPTIONS="log_path=/tmp/asan.log"; /tmp/perf/perf mem record -a
sleep 1; /tmp/perf/perf mem report'
I then go to the perf annotate view and quit. This triggers the asan
error (from the log file):

hist_browser__run isn't on the stack so the asan error looks legit.
There's no clean init/exit on struct ui_browser so I may be trading a
use-after-return for a memory leak, but that seems look a good trade
anyway.

We have been seeing crashes on duplicate keys in

So we're logging a changed extent from fsync, which is splitting an
extent in the log tree. But this split part already exists in the tree,
triggering the BUG().

This is the state of the log tree at the time of the crash, dumped with
drgn (https://github.com/osandov/drgn/blob/main/contrib/btrfs_tree.py)
to get more details than btrfs_print_leaf() gives us:

Item 5 in the log tree corresponds to item 183 in the filesystem tree,
but nothing matches item 4. Furthermore, item 183 is the last item in
the leaf.

btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() is responsible for logging prealloc extents
beyond i_size. It first truncates any previously logged prealloc extents
that start beyond i_size. Then, it walks the filesystem tree and copies
the prealloc extent items to the log tree.

If it hits the end of a leaf, then it calls btrfs_next_leaf(), which
unlocks the tree and does another search. However, while the filesystem
tree is unlocked, an ordered extent completion may modify the tree. In
particular, it may insert an extent item that overlaps with an extent
item that was already copied to the log tree.

This may manifest in several ways depending on the exact scenario,
including an EEXIST error that is silently translated to a full sync,
overlapping items in the log tree, or this crash. This particular crash
is triggered by the following sequence of events:

- Initially, the file has i_size=4k, a regular extent from 0-4k, and a
  prealloc extent beyond i_size from 4k-12k. The prealloc extent item is
  the last item in its B-tree leaf.
- The file is fsync'd, which copies its inode item and both extent items
  to the log tree.
- An xattr is set on the file, which sets the
  BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING flag.
- The range 4k-8k in the file is written using direct I/O. i_size is
  extended to 8k, but the ordered extent is still in flight.
- The file is fsync'd. Since BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING is set, this
  calls copy_inode_items_to_log(), which calls
  btrfs_log_prealloc_extents().
- btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() finds the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the
  filesystem tree. Since it starts before i_size, it skips it. Since it
  is the last item in its B-tree leaf, it calls btrfs_next_leaf().
- btrfs_next_leaf() unlocks the path.
- The ordered extent completion runs, which converts the 4k-8k part of
  the prealloc extent to written and inserts the remaining prealloc part
  from 8k-12k.
- btrfs_next_leaf() does a search and finds the new prealloc extent
  8k-12k.
- btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() copies the 8k-12k prealloc extent into
  the log tree. Note that it overlaps with the 4k-12k prealloc extent
  that was copied to the log tree by the first fsync.
- fsync calls btrfs_log_changed_extents(), which tries to log the 4k-8k
  extent that was written.
- This tries to drop the range 4k-8k in the log tree, which requires
  adjusting the start of the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the log tree to
  8k.
- btrfs_set_item_key_safe() sees that there is already an extent
  starting at 8k in the log tree and calls BUG().

Fix this by detecting when we're about to insert an overlapping file
extent item in the log tree and truncating the part that would overlap.

Testing showed that the problem did not occur if the two error
messages -- the first two lines above -- were removed; apparently adding
material to the kernel log takes a surprisingly large amount of time.

In any case, the best approach for preventing these lockups and to
avoid spamming the log with thousands of error messages per second is
to ratelimit the two dev_err() calls. Therefore we replace them with
dev_err_ratelimited().

[ Upstream commit d182575 ]

During inode logging (and log replay too), we are holding a transaction
handle and we often need to call btrfs_iget(), which will read an inode
from its subvolume btree if it's not loaded in memory and that results in
allocating an inode with GFP_KERNEL semantics at the btrfs_alloc_inode()
callback - and this may recurse into the filesystem in case we are under
memory pressure and attempt to commit the current transaction, resulting
in a deadlock since the logging (or log replay) task is holding a
transaction handle open.

Syzbot reported this with the following stack traces:

Fix this by ensuring we are under a NOFS scope whenever we call
btrfs_iget() during inode logging and log replay.

commit be346c1 upstream.

The code in ocfs2_dio_end_io_write() estimates number of necessary
transaction credits using ocfs2_calc_extend_credits(). This however does
not take into account that the IO could be arbitrarily large and can
contain arbitrary number of extents.

Extent tree manipulations do often extend the current transaction but not
in all of the cases. For example if we have only single block extents in
the tree, ocfs2_mark_extent_written() will end up calling
ocfs2_replace_extent_rec() all the time and we will never extend the
current transaction and eventually exhaust all the transaction credits if
the IO contains many single block extents. Once that happens a
WARN_ON(jbd2_handle_buffer_credits(handle) <= 0) is triggered in
jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() and subsequently OCFS2 aborts in response to
this error. This was actually triggered by one of our customers on a
heavily fragmented OCFS2 filesystem.

To fix the issue make sure the transaction always has enough credits for
one extent insert before each call of ocfs2_mark_extent_written().

When updating hist maps it's also necessary to update the hist symbol
reference because the old one gets freed in map__put().

While this bug was probably introduced with 5c24b67 ("perf
tools: Replace map->referenced & maps->removed_maps with map->refcnt"),
the symbol objects were leaked until c087e94 ("perf machine:
Fix refcount usage when processing PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL") was merged so
the bug was masked.

mmstick pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Oct 16, 2024
commit 9af2efe upstream.

The fields in the hist_entry are filled on-demand which means they only
have meaningful values when relevant sort keys are used.

So if neither of 'dso' nor 'sym' sort keys are used, the map/symbols in
the hist entry can be garbage. So it shouldn't access it
unconditionally.

I got a segfault, when I wanted to see cgroup profiles.

  $ sudo perf record -a --all-cgroups --synth=cgroup true

  $ sudo perf report -s cgroup

  Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

As you can see the entry->ms.map was NULL even if he->ms.map has a
value. This is because 'sym' sort key is not given, so it cannot assume
whether he->ms.sym and entry->ms.sym is the same. I only checked the
'sym' sort key here as it implies 'dso' behavior (so maps are the same).
