Is this the way that these terms are usually defined?

Not really. Often people don't split them in two and just refer to it as Data Availability. Bartek from L2Beat have mentioned them as different a couple of times though: https://x.com/bkiepuszewski/status/1696417258552033558

Maybe I'm mis-reading the tweet, it seems to imply that when we say DA we really mean data publishing, whereas I read this document to mean that DA and data publishing are different. Is that the case?

When people say DA they are mostly talking about Data Publication. Where I am saying Data Availability is that the data is available beyond publication, e.g., what Bartek refers to as storage. Think he used entirely different words to not end up with "DA" is Data publication and Data Availability is different, where I would like to use the DA for data availability and then we can call data publication DP or something else.

Looking good, just a few potential changes to make !

Essentially Data Publication $\subset$ Data Availability, since if it is available, it must also have been published. This difference might be small but becomes important in a few moments.

Progressing the state of the validating light requires that we can convince it (and therefore the [availability oracle](./index.md#availability-oracle)) that the data was published - as it needs to compute the public inputs for the proof. The exact method of computing these public inputs can vary depending on the data layer, but generally, it would be by providing the data directly or by using data availability sampling or a data committee.

Not sure if "holding" is the best word, but just changed for sentence flow / structure

A committee is just a group appointed for some special task, here their task is making data available, so you are not holding a committee (as you might hold a vote).

Gotcha, then maybe something like this ?

Here it was a reference to that in distributed systems this is often defined as etc, so "from", but I can see that it might be a bad choice of word

With the target of 10 transactions per second at launch, which will likely be more complex than the simple ones estimated here, some of the options simple cannot satisfy our requirements.

For Eip-4844, 10 TPS is really out the picture regardless of if we are being a "full L2" as people would understand it with as close to L1 guarantees as possible or even just keeping what is required for everyone.

At Danksharding with 64 blobs, we can fit in 50 tps but not both the data for **everyone** and *someone*. And since this is likely years in the making, it might not be something we can meaningfully count on to address our data needs.

At Danksharding with 64 blobs, we theoretically could support 50 tps, but will not be able to (process / publish) both the data for **everyone** and *someone*. Additionally since this is likely years in the making, it may not be something we can meaningfully count on to address our data needs.

My revision is still awk... "but not for..."
