EDIT

  • Instead of using version now using --details/--no-details with details to be true so screenshot args are out of date but output format is still valid.

Format changed from

to

which shows a lot more auditing information. This is useful to debug issues in an easier manner.

Walkthrough

The updates primarily revise the DataHub CLI’s get command to include an optional --details flag and alter how aspects are processed within the function get_aspects_for_entity by introducing a details parameter. These changes affect the output format and make the DataHub CLI more flexible in its data retrieval process.

Changes

File Path Change Summary
docs/how/updating-datahub.md Updated documentation to reflect the requirement to add -v 1 to use the older datahub get output format.
metadata-ingestion/src/.../cli_utils.py Added details parameter to get_aspects_for_entity function to control aspect dictionary processing.
metadata-ingestion/src/.../get_cli.py Added --details/--no-details flag to the get CLI command and updated related urn function parameters.

Poem

From CLI commands, new flags arise,
--details now, to no surprise.
With aspects clear and docs in tune,
DataHub's tune will help you soon.
A toggle here, a flag so wise,
Data's journey simplified, no disguise.

    • Open a follow-up GitHub issue for this discussion.
  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit testing code for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table.
    • @coderabbitai show all the console.log statements in this repository.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit testing code.

Suggest using a different way of switching to the detailed output format instead of using a version switch.

Eg --details or --with-system-metadata

We might need version later if we have versioned entities and need to get metadata for a specific version of an entity.

Is there a downside to leaving the default to be the concise (--no-details) option? That way, we don't unintentionally break anyone who might be using this as an unofficial contract.

Most people won't find out the flag exists. We have a lot of CLI commands but because of not enough docs folks never discover they exist. I was hoping to make a more sane default.

But I can revert this breaking change. Not a hard requirmeent to do the breaking change.

* feat(ingest): add `check server-config` command (datahub-project#10990)

* feat(cli): Make consistent use of DataHubGraphClientConfig (datahub-project#10466)

Deprecates get_url_and_token() in favor of a more complete option: load_graph_config() that returns a full DatahubClientConfig.
This change was then propagated across previous usages of get_url_and_token so that connections to DataHub server from the client respect the full breadth of configuration specified by DatahubClientConfig.

I.e: You can now specify disable_ssl_verification: true in your ~/.datahubenv file so that all cli functions to the server work when ssl certification is disabled.
