Compression patch error #49
Comments
You need to apply the patch at bootc@bff06d1 as well. With this in, it looks as if compressed kernels are now working again. |
Apologies. I missed a bit. Please try again. |
UART0_CLOCK is not defined anywhere as i see.... |
Sorry, hadn't pushed.. Try now.. |
Confirmed. |
That's work now, compressed kernel work too |

commit 215c02b upstream. Fuzzing with trinity hit the "impossible" VM_BUG_ON(error) (which Fedora has converted to WARNING) in shmem_getpage_gfp(): WARNING: at mm/shmem.c:1151 shmem_getpage_gfp+0xa5c/0xa70() Pid: 29795, comm: trinity-child4 Not tainted 3.7.0-rc2+ #49 Call Trace: warn_slowpath_common+0x7f/0xc0 warn_slowpath_null+0x1a/0x20 shmem_getpage_gfp+0xa5c/0xa70 shmem_fault+0x4f/0xa0 __do_fault+0x71/0x5c0 handle_pte_fault+0x97/0xae0 handle_mm_fault+0x289/0x350 __do_page_fault+0x18e/0x530 do_page_fault+0x2b/0x50 page_fault+0x28/0x30 tracesys+0xe1/0xe6 Thanks to Johannes for pointing to truncation: free_swap_and_cache() only does a trylock on the page, so the page lock we've held since before confirming swap is not enough to protect against truncation. What cleanup is needed in this case? Just delete_from_swap_cache(), which takes care of the memcg uncharge. When netdev is being allocated on initialization time, it allocates a private area, here struct ixgbe_adapter, that resides after the net_device structure. In ixgbe_probe(), the device init routine, we set up the adapter after alloc_etherdev_mq() on the private area and add a reference for the pci_dev as well via pci_set_drvdata(). Both in the error path of ixgbe_probe(), but also on module unload when ixgbe_remove() is being called, commit 41c6284 ("ixgbe: Fix rcu warnings induced by LER") accesses adapter after free_netdev(). The patch stores the result in a bool and thus fixes above oops on my side. This fixes a bug which results in stale vcore pointers being left in the per-cpu preempted vcore lists when a VM is destroyed. The result of the stale vcore pointers is usually either a crash or a lockup inside collect_piggybacks() when another VM is run. A typical lockup message looks like: [ 472.161074] NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#24 stuck for 22s! In that case we need to wait for the vcpu to finish executing inside the guest, and then remove this vcore from the preempted vcores list. That way, we avoid leaving this vcpu's vcore on the preempted vcores list when the vcpu gets interrupted. If a user key gets negatively instantiated, an error code is cached in the payload area. A negatively instantiated key may be then be positively instantiated by updating it with valid data. em_jmp_far and em_ret_far assumed that setting IP can only fail in 64 bit mode, but syzkaller proved otherwise (and SDM agrees). Code segment was restored upon failure, but it was left uninitialized outside of long mode, which could lead to a leak of host kernel stack. syzbot reported yet another crash [1] that is caused by insufficient validation of DODGY packets. Two bugs are happening here to trigger the crash. 1) Flow dissection leaves with incorrect thoff field. 2) skb_probe_transport_header() sets transport header to this invalid thoff, even if pointing after skb valid data. 3) qdisc_pkt_len_init() reads out-of-bound data because it trusts tcp_hdrlen(skb) Possible fixes : - Full flow dissector validation before injecting bad DODGY packets in the stack. This approach was attempted here : https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/ 861874/ - Have more robust functions in the core. This might be needed anyway for stable versions. This patch fixes the flow dissection issue. [ Upstream commit da71577 ] When an FDB entry is configured, the address is validated to have the length of an Ethernet address, but the device for which the address is configured can be of any type. The above can result in the use of uninitialized memory when the address is later compared against existing addresses since 'dev->addr_len' is used and it may be greater than ETH_ALEN, as with ip6tnl devices. Fix this by making sure that FDB entries are only configured for Ethernet devices. Increase kasan instrumented kernel stack size from 32k to 64k. Other architectures seems to get away with just doubling kernel stack size under kasan, but on s390 this appears to be not enough due to bigger frame size. The particular pain point is kasan inlined checks (CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE vs CONFIG_KASAN_OUTLINE). With inlined checks one particular case hitting stack overflow is fs sync on xfs filesystem: #0 [9a0681e8] 704 bytes check_usage at 34b1fc #1 [9a0684a8] 432 bytes check_usage at 34c710 #2 [9a068658] 1048 bytes validate_chain at 35044a #3 [9a068a70] 312 bytes __lock_acquire at 3559fe #4 [9a068ba8] 440 bytes lock_acquire at 3576ee #5 [9a068d60] 104 bytes _raw_spin_lock at 21b44e0 #6 [9a068dc8] 1992 bytes enqueue_entity at 2dbf72 #7 [9a069590] 1496 bytes enqueue_task_fair at 2df5f0 #8 [9a069b68] 64 bytes ttwu_do_activate at 28f438 #9 [9a069ba8] 552 bytes try_to_wake_up at 298c4c #10 [9a069dd0] 168 bytes wake_up_worker at 23f97c #11 [9a069e78] 200 bytes insert_work at 23fc2e #12 [9a069f40] 648 bytes __queue_work at 2487c0 #13 [9a06a1c8] 200 bytes __queue_delayed_work at 24db28 #14 [9a06a290] 248 bytes mod_delayed_work_on at 24de84 #15 [9a06a388] 24 bytes kblockd_mod_delayed_work_on at 153e2a0 #16 [9a06a3a0] 288 bytes __blk_mq_delay_run_hw_queue at 158168c #17 [9a06a4c0] 192 bytes blk_mq_run_hw_queue at 1581a3c #18 [9a06a580] 184 bytes blk_mq_sched_insert_requests at 15a2192 #19 [9a06a638] 1024 bytes blk_mq_flush_plug_list at 1590f3a #20 [9a06aa38] 704 bytes blk_flush_plug_list at 1555028 #21 [9a06acf8] 320 bytes schedule at 219e476 #22 [9a06ae38] 760 bytes schedule_timeout at 21b0aac #23 [9a06b130] 408 bytes wait_for_common at 21a1706 #24 [9a06b2c8] 360 bytes xfs_buf_iowait at fa1540 #25 [9a06b430] 256 bytes __xfs_buf_submit at fadae6 #26 [9a06b530] 264 bytes xfs_buf_read_map at fae3f6 #27 [9a06b638] 656 bytes xfs_trans_read_buf_map at 10ac9a8 #28 [9a06b8c8] 304 bytes xfs_btree_kill_root at e72426 #29 [9a06b9f8] 288 bytes xfs_btree_lookup_get_block at e7bc5e #30 [9a06bb18] 624 bytes xfs_btree_lookup at e7e1a6 #31 [9a06bd88] 2664 bytes xfs_alloc_ag_vextent_near at dfa070 #32 [9a06c7f0] 144 bytes xfs_alloc_ag_vextent at dff3ca #33 [9a06c880] 1128 bytes xfs_alloc_vextent at e05fce #34 [9a06cce8] 584 bytes xfs_bmap_btalloc at e58342 #35 [9a06cf30] 1336 bytes xfs_bmapi_write at e618de #36 [9a06d468] 776 bytes xfs_iomap_write_allocate at ff678e #37 [9a06d770] 720 bytes xfs_map_blocks at f82af8 #38 [9a06da40] 928 bytes xfs_writepage_map at f83cd6 #39 [9a06dde0] 320 bytes xfs_do_writepage at f85872 #40 [9a06df20] 1320 bytes write_cache_pages at 73dfe8 #41 [9a06e448] 208 bytes xfs_vm_writepages at f7f892 #42 [9a06e518] 88 bytes do_writepages at 73fe6a #43 [9a06e570] 872 bytes __writeback_single_inode at a20cb6 #44 [9a06e8d8] 664 bytes writeback_sb_inodes at a23be2 #45 [9a06eb70] 296 bytes __writeback_inodes_wb at a242e0 #46 [9a06ec98] 928 bytes wb_writeback at a2500e #47 [9a06f038] 848 bytes wb_do_writeback at a260ae #48 [9a06f388] 536 bytes wb_workfn at a28228 #49 [9a06f5a0] 1088 bytes process_one_work at 24a234 #50 [9a06f9e0] 1120 bytes worker_thread at 24ba26 #51 [9a06fe40] 104 bytes kthread at 26545a #52 [9a06fea8] kernel_thread_starter at 21b6b62 To be able to increase the stack size to 64k reuse LLILL instruction in __switch_to function to load 64k - STACK_FRAME_OVERHEAD - __PT_SIZE (65192) value as unsigned. If a request is prepared, the dma_map/unmap are done in asynchronous call pre_req (prep_data) and post_req (unprep_data). In this case the dma-mapping is right balanced. But if the request was not prepared, the data->host_cookie is define to zero and the dma_map/unmap must be done in the request. The dma_map is called by mmci_dma_start (prep_data), but there is no dma_unmap in this case. This patch adds dma_unmap_sg when the dma is finalized and the data cookie is zero (request not prepared). [ Upstream commit 0f20615 ] Fix BPF_CORE_READ_BITFIELD() macro used for reading CO-RE-relocatable bitfields. Missing breaks in a switch caused 8-byte reads always. This can confuse libbpf because it does strict checks that memory load size corresponds to the original size of the field, which in this case quite often would be wrong. After fixing that, we run into another problem, which quite subtle, so worth documenting here. The issue is in Clang optimization and CO-RE relocation interactions. Without that asm volatile construct (also known as barrier_var()), Clang will re-order BYTE_OFFSET and BYTE_SIZE relocations and will apply BYTE_OFFSET 4 times for each switch case arm. This will result in the same error from libbpf about mismatch of memory load size and original field size. I.e., if we were reading u32, we'd still have *(u8 *), *(u16 *), *(u32 *), and *(u64 *) memory loads, three of which will fail. Using barrier_var() forces Clang to apply BYTE_OFFSET relocation first (and once) to calculate p, after which value of p is used without relocation in each of switch case arms, doing appropiately-sized memory load. Here's the list of relevant relocations and pieces of generated BPF code before and after this patch for test_core_reloc_bitfields_direct selftests. This loads, through lots of indirection that I snipped, the libcom_err.so.2 library, which (in an unknown function, "??") calls sem_init(). Now, of course it wants to get libpthread's sem_init(), since it's linked against libpthread. However, the dynamic linker looks up that symbol against the binary first, and gets the kernel's sem_init(). Hajime Tazaki noted that "objcopy -L" can localize a symbol, so the dynamic linker wouldn't do the lookup this way. I tried, but for some reason that didn't seem to work. Doing the same thing in the linker script instead does seem to work, though I cannot entirely explain - it *also* works if I just add "VERSION { { global: *; }; }" instead, indicating that something else is happening that I don't really understand. It may be that explicitly doing that marks them with some kind of empty version, and that's different from the default. Explicitly marking them with a version breaks kallsyms, so that doesn't seem to be possible. Marking all the symbols as local seems correct, and does seem to address the issue, so do that. Also do it for static link, nsswitch libraries could still be loaded there. Also do it for static link, nsswitch libraries could still be loaded there. commit 7afb867 upstream. open_cached_dir() may either race with the tcon reconnection even before compound_send_recv() or directly trigger a reconnection via SMB2_open_init() or SMB_query_info_init(). The reconnection process invokes invalidate_all_cached_dirs() via cifs_mark_open_files_invalid(), which removes all cfids from the cfids->entries list but doesn't drop a ref if has_lease isn't true. This results in the currently-being-constructed cfid not being on the list, but still having a refcount of 2. It leaks if returned from open_cached_dir(). [ Upstream commit b9e9ed9 ] For htab of maps, when the map is removed from the htab, it may hold the last reference of the map. bpf_map_fd_put_ptr() will invoke bpf_map_free_id() to free the id of the removed map element. However, bpf_map_fd_put_ptr() is invoked while holding a bucket lock (raw_spin_lock_t), and bpf_map_free_id() attempts to acquire map_idr_lock (spinlock_t), triggering the following lockdep warning: ============================= [ BUG: Invalid wait context ] 6.11.0-rc4+ #49 Not tainted ----------------------------- test_maps/4881 is trying to lock: ffffffff84884578 (map_idr_lock){+...}-{3:3}, at: bpf_map_free_id.part.0+0x21/0x70 other info that might help us debug this: context-{5:5} 2 locks held by test_maps/4881: #0: ffffffff846caf60 (rcu_read_lock){....}-{1:3}, at: bpf_fd_htab_map_update_elem+0xf9/0x270 #1: ffff888149ced148 (&htab->lockdep_key#2){....}-{2:2}, at: htab_map_update_elem+0x178/0xa80 stack backtrace: CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 4881 Comm: test_maps Not tainted 6.11.0-rc4+ #49 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), ... However, bpf_map_alloc_id() invokes idr_alloc_cyclic() after acquiring map_idr_lock, it will trigger a similar lockdep warning because the slab's lock (s->cpu_slab->lock) is still a spinlock. Instead of changing map_idr_lock's type, fix the issue by invoking htab_put_fd_value() after htab_unlock_bucket(). However, only deferring the invocation of htab_put_fd_value() is not enough, because the old map pointers in htab of maps can not be saved during batched deletion. Therefore, also defer the invocation of free_htab_elem(), so these to-be-freed elements could be linked together similar to lru map. There are four callers for ->map_fd_put_ptr: (1) alloc_htab_elem() (through htab_put_fd_value()) It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr() under a raw_spinlock_t. The invocation of htab_put_fd_value() can not simply move after htab_unlock_bucket(), because the old element has already been stashed in htab->extra_elems. It may be reused immediately after htab_unlock_bucket() and the invocation of htab_put_fd_value() after htab_unlock_bucket() may release the newly-added element incorrectly. Therefore, saving the map pointer of the old element for htab of maps before unlocking the bucket and releasing the map_ptr after unlock. Beside the map pointer in the old element, should do the same thing for the special fields in the old element as well. (2) free_htab_elem() (through htab_put_fd_value()) Its caller includes __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_elem(), htab_map_delete_elem() and __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch(). For htab_map_delete_elem(), simply invoke free_htab_elem() after htab_unlock_bucket(). For __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch(), just like lru map, linking the to-be-freed element into node_to_free list and invoking free_htab_elem() for these element after unlock. It is safe to reuse batch_flink as the link for node_to_free, because these elements have been removed from the hash llist. Because htab of maps doesn't support lookup_and_delete operation, __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_elem() doesn't have the problem, so kept it as is. (3) fd_htab_map_free() It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr without raw_spinlock_t. (4) bpf_fd_htab_map_update_elem() It invokes ->map_fd_put_ptr without raw_spinlock_t. After moving free_htab_elem() outside htab bucket lock scope, using pcpu_freelist_push() instead of __pcpu_freelist_push() to disable the irq before freeing elements, and protecting the invocations of bpf_mem_cache_free() with migrate_{disable|enable} pair.
