(Last 10 Minutes): Roundtable
- OR
- Danny and Mark presented a community update yesterday, Arran represented Islandora at the Rodeo and did a great job.
- Redo: Islandora Defaults refactoring
- We need to figure out how to deploy changes to our codebase to existing sites while not hindering innovation.
- Nate presented work they are doing at UT Scarborogh called "Islandora Lite".
- Uses some current core Islandora components, and modifies a few more, but relies on more Drupal contrib modules than core Islanodora does. Breaks a lot of current Islandora functionality into their own smaller modules.
- One major change is the relationship between node and media. This approach inverts Islandora's media->node to Drupal's standard node->media.
- The advantage of this approach is that it removes a lot of the heavy dependencies that Islandora currently has, at the cost of some advanced functionality.
- Two things that are not included yet are indexing to Fedora and derivative creation.
- Some conversation coming out of the demo:
- We discussed the approach of creating several content types based on metadata schemas (DC, MODS, MARC, etc.) and the pros and cons of updating these content types via update hooks.
- Plan is to make Github issues for many of the changes Nat is recommending so we can discuss each one of them in detail.
